Show Voting No To Garkane Move I stopped in Panguitch the other day to get gas and picked up a copy of the Garfield County News. I read with interest your article entitled, enti-tled, "Member-Consumers Will Decide On Garkane Headquarters Move". In your article, you stated that Garkane's service area does not include any of Sevier County. I beg to differ! Garkane services Fishlake, Koosharem, Burrville, Monroe Mountain and a great deal of the unincorporated areas of Sevier County, including my account ac-count near Koosharem Reservoir. You are also incorrect in stating that all taxes and vehicle registration registra-tion fees, etc. go to Richfield and Sevier County. I'm in the real estate business and I know that utilities are "state assessed," meaning mean-ing that all of their taxes, including vehicles, are apportioned to the counties in which they exist and operate. I'm glad the Board of Garkane will put this issue to a vote of the members, rather than make the decision de-cision themselves. I hope the members will become be-come educated as to all the issues surrounding this proposed move. I guarantee you there will be costs, not only with a new office, but the indirect costs of moving personnel and retraining new personnel. (See NO TO MOVE on Page 4-B) No To Move From Front Page The existing management and staff of Garkane have done an excellent excel-lent job in providing great service at a very reasonable cost, even a recent rate decrease. Why are we upsetting the apple cart at this time and creating new costs for the cooperative when the future of Garkane is unknown in electric power deregulation. Garkane customers need to know all the facts, for me I'm voting vot-ing NO! jo Brad Staples Richfield |
