Garkane Consumer Will Decide On Headquarters Location In January RICHFIELD Garkane Power Pow-er Association's board of directors set a special meeting for Jan. 26 at Rubys Inn at Bryce to count the ballots which will decide whether the cooperative's headquarters head-quarters will be moved to Hatch or remain in Richfield. All eight board members met for the company's regular monthly meeting Monday in Richfield where they agreed upon the final wording for the ballots to be mailed out in early January for voting on the move. The ballots will simply ask: Shall the headquarters head-quarters be moved from Richfield to Hatch? requiring only a yes or no response. Hatch's Mayor LaV'af Sawyer had submitted a request for a complete mailing list of all Garkane members for a general mailing which the town is planning. plan-ning. Board members LaDon Tor-gerson Tor-gerson and George Blackburn requested re-quested similar lists for their districts. The ballot was approved with only one dissenting vote. At the Jan. 26 meeting, which is set for 6:30 p.m., results of the count, to be conducted by the Richfield accounting firm of Kimball and Roberts, are expected to be announced. Board members will supervise the procedure pro-cedure at the meeting which will be open to the public. Garkane's member-consumers will receive instructions for casting their votes along with their ballots shortly after the first of the year. The decision of whether to move from Richfield to a location somewhere on Garkane's power system has been a controversial issue for many years. It has divided the board of directors more than once in the past and the issue has traditionally resulted in an inability to agree upon an alternate location and a final decision to keep the outmoded headquarters in Richfield. Board members have this time apparently come closer to agreement agree-ment than at any time in the past, settling on Hatch as being centrally cen-trally located on the company's system, where a satellite office on the cooperative's 10 acres has already been operational for years. The move would require construction con-struction of a larger facility to handle the headquarters opera- (See GARKANE on Page 5-A) Garkane Ballots From Front Page tions. Board members have expressed ex-pressed their appreciation of the Richfield office staff and their hopes that the staff will remain with the company for the move to Hatch if consumers approve the change. |
