Show Could It Be True? While studying an Arizona map recently, I noticed the city of Wickenburg and it reminded me of an event that occurred in 1941. In light of what has dominated the news for the past many months, I want to share it with you. A friend and I were riding back to Panguitch with two local truck drivers who hauled potatoes to Phoenix. We stopped at Wickenburg Wicken-burg to get a bite to eat in a cafe that was located on the banks of the Hassayampa River. I noticed a large sign a short distance away with something written on it. Being curious, I went over to see what it said. It was a poem that so intrigued me that I memorized it: "There's a legend centuries old by the early Spaniards told Of a sparkling stream that lies beneath the Arizona skies. Hassayampa is its name and the title to its fame Those who drink its waters bright, White man, Red man, Boor or Knight, Girls or women, boys or men, never tell the truth again. " Could it be that President Clinton, his White House supporters, suppor-ters, and the Kingmakers of the Democratic Party drank of this water on one of their past trips to Arizona? It was announced that Clinton and party recently visited Arizona. It seems to be one of his favorite states. Could it be that he went again to drink of this water' to recharge his ability to spin-talk to the American public for the next two years? Earl Roe Panguitch |
