Volunteers from Florida, Tennessee and Texas came to help fix up the New Beginning Baptist Church last week. The worker were responding to PANGUITCH Pastor David Payne has a small congregation, but had a major remodeling project to undertake this season. The New Beginning Baptist Church had purchased an old trailer, formerly used as temporary bank facilities for State Bank of Southern Utah in Tropic. The church had the unit pulled over to Panguitch and parked in front of their single-wide trailer, which was being used as a meeting house. The Panguitch church is a member of the Color County Baptist Bap-tist Association and they sent out a call early this year through publications publica-tions asking for assistance with remodeling projects. A group of single adults from Florida, who generally work through the World Changer organization, organi-zation, a division of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention on varied volunteer projects all over Pastor David Payne's call for assistance to roof the new building, paint the siding and do other fix-it-up projects for the church. New Beginning Baptist Church Gets Facelift From Volunteers the nation, decided fo respond to Pastor Payne's call for help. The group began planning in February to make the trek by plane to Las Vegas, rent vehicles and come to Panguitch. They were 20 persons strong by July, coming from Pensacola, Florida Flor-ida and others who drove up from Pampas and Plainview, Tex. and Germantown and Memphis, Tenn. The volunteers are not trained construction workers or engineers, just lay people, including computer uperators, teachers, graphic artists, photo journalists, police officers, etc. They descended on Panguitch on Monday, splitting their time and manpower between the Panguitch project and one at the First Baptist Church in Cedar City. Their efforts were much appreciated in both communities. They group stayed at the Super i. 8 motel in Cedar City and also camped nearby. In Panguitch, the crew worked through Saturday to add a connecting connect-ing room between the two parallel church buildings, add siding siding to the front building, add a new roof, paint the skirting, and lay cement sidewalks. |
