Show Several Days Of Festivities Will Celebrate Utah's 'Tioneer Day" Garfield County residents and visitors to the area all over the county will join in several days of celebrating Utah's July 24th Pioneer Pio-neer Day, Utah's most popular holiday. Festivities began in Panguitch Pan-guitch on Wednesday with the first of four consecutive nights of the Panguitch Invitational High School Rodeo followed by a dance on three nights. All over the county, special activities, dances and rodeos are set for Friday night, with breakfasts, parades and activities throughout the day on Saturday and dances and rodeos again on Saturday night. A complete listing of individual community activities follows: Antimony Antimony residents will enjoy an LDS Primary parade, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24. The theme will be "Pioneer Journey" and will start at the elementary school and travel to the town park. Bryce Valley Residents in Tropic, Cannonville, Cannon-ville, Henrieville, Bryce, and Bryce Canyon will start celebrating Pioneer Pio-neer Day on Friday evening, July 23, with an old-fashioned "Ice Cream Social" and "Antique Display" Dis-play" at Cannonville Town Park. The Daughter of the Utah Pioneers Pio-neers will display antiques at the Cannonville Community Center and all residents invited to participate partici-pate by bringing any of their antiques an-tiques with a description of what it ia.'injv. it was Uacd, and who used it. Some examples are old pictures, cars, and farm and kitchen tools. Homemade ice cream and root-beer root-beer floats will be served and local storytellers will be on hand to share their stories. Cost will be $1 each or $5 per family. Proceeds will go to the Boy Scouts. On Saturday morning, July 24, a continental breakfast will be served at the old Henrieville schoolhouse at 7:30 a.m. with sweetrolls made by Lyllian Shakespear. Cost will be $1 each or $5 per family. At 7:45 a.m., a flag ceremony and program will be presented. At 9 a.m., parade-goers will start to line up at the elementary school in Tropic. The theme this year is "Pioneering Through The Centuries." Those who intend to participate need to be ready with the name of their float, who is presenting present-ing the display and what town they are from. For more information, contact Eric! Syrett in Tropic. Kids races and games will start at 10 a.m. at the Tropic Town Park with great food and activity booths. A bake sale will be held, along with a basketball shoot, watermelon-eating contest, pony rides, face painting, and lots of goodies to eat. Another great activity will be a pioneer craft demonstration. For booth space, contact Frankie or Gayle Moore in Henrieville. A hamburger lunch with all the fixings will be held at 11 a.m., costing $3.50 The Bryce Canyon Country Rodeo Ro-deo will begin at 7 p.m. at Ruby's Inn with a rabbit chase and rope-a-colt. A donation to the Boy Scouts will be made from all tickets sold at the gate. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. across the pond at Ruby's Inn. EscalanteBoulder Escalante and Boulder residents will start celebrating in Escalante on Friday night with a dance from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. at the old gym. The band "Crossroads" will be play ing and the cost will be $10 per couple and $6 single. On Saturday morning, two parades pa-rades will be held: a kids' parade, which will line up at 9:15 a.m. at First Security Bank and begin at 9:30; the second will line up at 10 a.m. at the Prospector Inn. Everyone Every-one is invited to participate and the theme is "Progress Through The Years." At 1 1 a.m., a lunch will be held at the LDS Cultural Hall. Cost will be $30 per family, immediate only; $5 adults, $3 kids ages 6 -12; and ages 5 and under free. A program, sponsored by the LDS Wards and directed by Kathy Griffin, will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the cultural hall. Kids races and games will start at 3 p.m. at the old baseball field and a carnival will be held at the community center at 3:30 p.m. A just-for-fun Little League game will start at 4:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., rodeo action will take place at the rodeo ground, followed fol-lowed by a great fireworks display at dusk. Hatch Hatch Town residents will enjoy en-joy a variety of activities on Saturday Satur-day monring starting with the Flag Raising ceremony at 7 a.m. at the Hatch Town Park, followed by "Dip's Run" north of town. Kids races and games will start at 10 a.m. at the Town Park. The annual town barbeque will be held that evening followed by a fireworks display. Panguitch Residents in Panguitch get a special rodeo treat this weekend, which begins on Wednesday. On Thursday, the rodeo starts at 10 a.m. and at 7 p.m. On Friday July 23, the Panguitch Pan-guitch Lions Club will host a breakfast at the Zions Bank parking lot at 7 a.m. Rodeo action will start at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday morning, another breakfast will begin at 6:30 a.m. and Jackpot Team Roping will start at 9 a.m. Prices for the breakfast will be $3 per person and $15 for immediate family members. The traditional Pioneer Day parade pa-rade will begin at 10 a.m. and parade-goers can line up at the city offices at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m., the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers will present a program at the LDS Stake Center and at 12:30 p.m., a deep pit barbecue barbe-cue dinner will be served at the fair building. Prices for the dinner will be $5 for adults and $3 for kids. Kiddie races and games will start at 2:30 p.m. at the city park, followed fol-lowed by the rodeo finals at 7 p.m. and a dance immediately after the rodeo. Prices for the rodeo will be $5 for adults, $3 for children 1 1 and under; and all performance passes for $15 for adults and $9 for children. chil-dren. Prices for the dances will be $3 per person and $5 per couple. Another unique event taking place in Panguitch in front of Panguitch Pan-guitch Drug at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Live entertainment and a fashion show will feature "Prom Fashions Through The Ages." Numerous dresses are now on display inside the store and the public is invited to attend. |
