Show Open Letter From BLM Recent changes in the laws regarding re-garding solid waste disposal have had their effect upon all of us. Almost Al-most suddenly we have all had to change the way we have dealt with solid waste disposal. Changing old habits is hard. It has taken a lot of work by a lot of people and it isn't over yet. However, the progress that has been made is remarkable. I think most would admit that although convenient, the existing garbage dumps were unsightly and unsanitary. Not only was this a problem, the landscape for a dis-. dis-. tance around the dumps also suffered suf-fered from scattered trash. I encourage en-courage the residents to visit the old dump sites and witness the cleanup. If you have pride in your county, now can't help but appreciate the change. Thanks arc in order to the mayors may-ors and town councils for their efforts ef-forts is seeing the need for a change and working toward solutions. Thanks to the county commission for providing the equipment and manpower to close the old dumps and provide new facilities. Thanks especially to Brian Brcmncr, the county engineer, for his leadership role in the entire effort. And thanks to you, the residents for your support. sup-port. There arc still a few details to be worked out, such as the disposal of items not suited for transporting to the regional landfill. Local officials are working toward a solution, but it will take lime before the entire program is working smoothly. We encourage the residents of Garfield County to support the efforts of their commissioners and town councils. Your help is needed to prevent despoiling the beamy that is Garfield County.
