Condolences to the families of three of our former residents. . Doyle Mclnelly, 68, West Jordan died Oct. 25. He is survived by his widow Naida and three daughters. Sherrill Dee Mounteer, 54, Roosevelt died of cancer leaving his widow, LaFonda, and two sons. :Wilma Wood, 44, St. George, daughter of Herman and Maude -. Spencer, died Oct. 25, leaving her husband David and seven children. Dee and Arvonne Whittaker, Washington, Utah and Lana Jordan, Duchesne spent a week here with their mother Iona Alvey. Dee and Arvonne arrived back in Washington in time to see their new little grandchild, MaKayla, . . blessed. She is the daughter of .-. Kelley and Justin Brinkerhoff. , There are quite a few places , around town getting facelifts before winter sets in. Kenny Hamilton came from up north to clean up ;.. around his place, formerly owned by Ada Porter. The tree trimming crew is at it again all around town, . the Quiet Falls Motel is getting new siding and Mason Lyman, our - water boss, performed one of his "last ditch efforts" by clearing all ; . the old trees and debris off the dam . at Wide Hollow Reservoir. Dustin Griffin and Kacie Allen :.. received the "Student of the Month" awards for October from the Escalante Chamber of Commerce at .: an assembly at the high school early in November. The Lion's Club is formulating v, plans for Christmas street decora tions. Since the big tree at the Neal Liston residence blew over this past summer it won't be quite the same, but I guess they are searching for alternative lighting ideas. The local LDS Family History Center has some new equipment. It not only handles the microfilm and microfiche but will make negatives off your photos. Former residents. Bud and Joy Gates, Salt Lake City, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 18. We didn't think they were 50 years old yet! Wish we could have all been there. Russell and Kim Mecham, Las Vegas, Nev. and Jon Sorensen, Salina brought their families over the weekend and remodeled the bathroom bath-room for grandparents S tarns and Fon Mecham. Tom and Kathy Marshall, Carbondale, Colo., came to see Kathy's mom, LaRue Spencer. Tom did some yard work and the ladies did a lot of visiting. Melanie Bernardo had some surgery done in Cedar City but is back home again. Hope you are feeling a lot better, Melanie. Reliable sources report that Sox Spencer is looking good since his sick spell. Rest up this winter, Sox, so you can give it heck again in the spring. Eva Dean Liston is home from up north where she has been visiting visit-ing with her three daughters. Utahna Poulson, Salt Lake City, Beth Blakey, Springville and Lola Alvey, Mapleton. Haynes and Iola Woolsey are great-grandparents for the third time. Jesse and Courtney Woolsey, Duchesne, have a 4 lb. 9 oz. baby boy. Courtney was life flighted to Salt Lake City with appendicitis and three days later delivered the baby who was five weeks early. He is still in the hospital but doing well. Carlyle Shurtz, Sandy, retired from his school teaching job in May, after 20 years. He and wife Barbara have been frequent visitors at the home of Carlyle's father Beryl Shurtz. Emilee Lott Callister has been asked to sing the national anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nev. Way to go, Emilee! If you have noticed Frank Coleman going around with his hand in the air lately it's because he and his skill saw had a little fracas and the saw won! It cut three of his fingers right down the center. The doctor was able to sew them back together and they are healing nicely. Bill Griffin helped Dawn celebrate her birthday by taking her to the dentist in Salt Lake City. But he let her visit with the kids while they were there too. Construction has begun on a new house for Monty and Sylvia Luker. They purchased the property just south of McKay Bailey's home. So Escalante keeps growing around the fringes. Friends and relatives gathered at the home of Elda Haws to help celebrate cel-ebrate her 91st birthday. In attendance were Fay Alvey, Vclma Boulter, Betty Alvey, Sylvia Luker, Thais Griffin, Freland and Phyllis Alvey, Wanless Alvey, Lola Zcnz, Margie Spencer, Donnie Randall, Twila Mclnelly, Jillyn Sorensen, Patrice Cottam and Iona Alvey. The Sons of the Pioneers enjoyed en-joyed an early Thanksgiving dinner, along with their monthly meeting at the Senior Citizen Center before it closed for the holiday. It will be closed Nov. 20 through Nov. 24 and will reopen Nov. 27. Stanley and Marlene Stowe have been to Ogden where they completed com-pleted a one-day training course on "Emergency Debriefing" at Weber State University. They are members mem-bers of the "Utah Critical Stress Team" and will be working as volunteers vol-unteers with emergency personnel and spouses in Garfield, Kane, Iron and Washington counties. The Stowes are also grandparents again. Mike and Trudi Stowe have a new little baby girl named McKenzie. Congratulations to Joe and Jolene Lyman Phillips who were married Nov. 17 and will be living here in Escalante. Mel and Vaunie Richins have been to Pine, Ariz, where they visited vis-ited with son David and family. |
