Show 1( imuwihe .vmutt il By Harriet Priska 826810 Pioneer days will soon be here and there is a flurry of activity all over town as groups and families prepare floats for the parade on July 24. The theme this year is "Wagon Days" and everyone is looking forward to one of the best little parades in Utah! Francis and Barbara Imlay enjoyed en-joyed a visit from daughter Laurie Oldroyd, in Evanston, Wyo. Jim and Rose Caldwell recently attended their first-ever family reunion re-union in Woodward, Ok. where 99 were in attendance. Richard Lyman, son of Randel Lyman has purchased the Padre Motel from Randel and Gwen Lyman. Mrs. Richard (Mary) Lyman will be running the motel and Richard will commute on weekends from Bountiful for the time being. He is currently employed as an engineer by Fiber Tech in Springville. Richard was born in Richfield and moved to Escalante when he was three years old. He married Mary Coombs from Boulder. Previous managers of the Padre Motel, Blaine and Candy Lyman have moved to Summerville, Mo. The Frank and Martha Brown family reunion was held at the Petrified Pet-rified Forest State Park over the 4th of July weekend. Over 200 came from Utah and California. Frank's mother was a Berry and her brothers ran cattle in Long Valley. Frank was born in Kanaraville in the 1880's. In the 1870's the bodies of two Berry brothers, a girl and two Indians were found in the area, which is now the ghost town of Grafton. The Parley and Esther Coleman annual reunion was held at Deer Creek campground for three days. Kathryn Coleman reported that 113 were in attendance with 13 of the 14 families were represented. Kathryn is feeling much better after having some spurs removed from her shoulders and can raise her arm and write once again. Jessie and Cathie Cope surprised Gene and Barbara Jerry with a quick visit from Lake Elsinore, Calif. They helped Gene level off the property and prepare it for water, etc. The Jerrys own a boat repair at Dana Point, Calif, and hope to sell out in a year or so and build here. They hauled off 50 dump truck loads of debris from their property. Gene says "now I have a view!" Marlene and Klyn Haws enjoyed a visit from Robert, Goldie and Terrilee Haws, Loma, Colo, before he went back to work in the oil fields in the Persian Gulf. Everyone has noticed the new mail box in front of the post office. Postmaster Dean Thomson suggests that you put all your outgoing mail in it and he will be able to prove that we are qualified for a drive up box. So help increase the usage and we will get an even more convenient system. The Class of 1953 at Escalante High School will have their 40-ycar 40-ycar reunion at the home of Bob Munson, July 23 at 7 p.m. costing $5 per person. Rich Priska from Houston, Tex,, is here visiting his brother, Philip Priska. Geraldine and Lane Liston enjoyed en-joyed a visit from son, Gary Liston of St. Johns, Ariz., who had a bumpy flight on his way here to help brand cattle. |
