Show IB MEBflMiLiMI By Ronnie Brinkerhoff 679-8734 Well, Christmas is over for another an-other year; all that is left are the bills and empty pockets. I wonder if those three wise men knew what they were starting almost two thousand thou-sand years ago. The annual Christmas program at the LDS Church was a success the children beaming, their voices blending, the special story of the Christ child and the anticipation of that once-a-year visitor, Santa. Bill and Carol Niemann are back in town for the holidays along with daughter Nikki and son Eric. Jim Walstead traveled to Texas to spend Christmas with his family. fam-ily. Sherrie Mecham, daughter of Lowell and Margaret Mecham, spoke in LDS Sacrament meeting at her missionary farewell on Sunday, Sun-day, -am's daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Jim Miller, of Henderson, Nev., along with their four daughters were in town for the occasion, along with Sherrie's brothers Steve and Scott, sister Shauna Talbot and their families. Many family members and friends attended. Dixie Shakespear reported that she and husband E.R. traveled to Las Vegas where they visited with Norm and Clella Littlefield. The Littlefields say they miss Tropic and the folks here. We miss you, too. Come visit. Cami Mangum and son Stetson visited in Cedar City with Cami's parents Walt and Coleen Engle. Si Munson celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by family. Son and daughter-in-law Don and Dixie Munson were on hand to wish him the best. Coach Tom Heywood spent a night in the Dixie Medical Center in St. George after surgery. Wife Sherrie drove him down. Tom's aunt Louise Ott reports that coach is home and in good condition. We wish you well, coach! Stan and Louise Ott attended the blessing for new granddaughter Aubri Lyn, daughter of the Ott's daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Jody Edwards of Cedar City. The Ott's grandson, son of True and Joan Ott of Cedar City, was ordained or-dained a deacon in the LDS Church the same day. Visiting the Tom Hcywoods and the Stan Otts over the holiday were Fred and Rita Heywood of West Valley. The Kent Wintches had visits from two of Kent's sisters and their husbands, JoAnn and Ron Otteson of St. George and Hannah and Jim Goulding of Cedar City. Agnes Littlefield called to report visitors. Granddaughter Selena and her husband Hal Marquardsen and family of Richfield and grandson Brian Beatty who recently moved from Texas to Las Vegas. Brian is a paramedic. Brian and Selena are the children of the late Jim and Helen He-len Beatty. Talked to Keela Mangum and she was rather "flustered." Seems son Tawn had informed her that he had reported to the Tropic News that she was "somewhere she wasn't supposed to be." Tawn was just "pulling her leg," but payback can be rough, Tawn. Keela's daughter Lacey has been attending college at Southern Utah University. Her roommate is Audrey Au-drey Hale of Redmond. Turned out the two girls discovered they are cousins. Audrey is the granddaughter granddaugh-ter of former Escalante resident Jim Reynolds. Jim Reynolds was named after Keela's grandfather Jim Smith who was a brother to Audrey's Au-drey's great-grandmother Maude Smith Reynolds. Another connection connec-tion the to the Bryce Valley are. Jim is a brother to Lark Reynolds of Cannonville. Genealogy is a real challenge. Lacey spent several days with Audrey in Redmond. Dave and Steph Roberts have a new 4x4. Son Colton stayed at the Raymond Brinkerhoffs while his parents took their new purchase out into the hills to officially "break it in." Other visitors at the Brinkerhoffs Brinker-hoffs were Derrick an d Sherel Clark of St. George, Stephen and Amber Simons of Cedar City and the three Brinkerhoff granddaughters. Wes Troy of Orderville, Valley High's MVP in region 1A basketball for 1993, visited with the Brinkerhoffs. Jean and Spring Seiler had a houseful of welcome guests: Jean's folks, the Marve Seilers and Jean's sister Ellen and her five children. We understand that Bob Syrett has returned from his trip to Switzerland. The Blue Ridge is decorated in Christmas lights. Jeff and Julie Walden, their son Ryan and daughter daugh-ter Jessica, and and Julie's parents Paul and Lou McCann, are spending spend-ing their Christmas holidays for the first time as members of our community. com-munity. Raymond Brinkerhoff helped them scout for the first Christmas tree Jeff had ever harvested. har-vested. We who live in the country take the good things for granted the fresh air, the smell of a freshly cut Christmas tree, knowing all our neighbors, and liking them. The list goes on and on. As a town of Country-loving folk, we want to extend a warm welcome to all newcomers new-comers and wish them and us a "happy New Year." |
