Show Jfe iSPRLS It may be cold outside and the snow piling high in Bryce Valley, but the number one rated Bryce Valley Mustangs don't seem to mind as they keep piling up something some-thing of their own ... victories! BV blasted Escalante 95-47 and Pan-guitch Pan-guitch 81-54 on consecutive nights as they just keep on rolling. They only have one game left in the first round of the league schedule, a big one with Piute, this weekend in a battle of the top two teams in the league. Piute was upset on a buzzer shot on their home court by Valley 59-56 last weekend, so will be looking to tie things up in league standings. In other games, Escalante Escalan-te stopped Wayne 71-60 and Pan-guitch Pan-guitch last to Wayne 61-58 in the Bobcats' most solid outting of the year. Against the Escalante Moquis, Bryce Valley had some great team play with five players hitting double dou-ble figures. Derrick Clark gunned in 27, while David Shakespear hit 16, Mike Ahlstrom 15, Justin Grimmer 13, in his finest shooting game, and Matt Shakespear made 11. Chance Stewart almost got there with 9 for BV, Chad Lyman knocked down 14 for Escalante, followed by Jason Griffin with 1 3, Clay Stewart 11, and Robin Venuti, a bright spot for the red and white, scored 10. At Panguitch, the Bobcats tied the Mustangs at 18-18, but Derrick Clark turned in three quick steals and the boys in green never looked back, suddenly it was 49-29 and the game was over. Defensive play by Clark, Jed Johnson and Justin Grimmer, along with balanced scoring, paved the way for this easy win. Clark and smooth-shooting David Shakespear hit for 23 and 22 respectively, while Matt Shakespear had 12 and Mike Ahlstrom 11. At this point in the season, Bryce Valley looks to have too much depth and fire power for any other of the local teams. Coach Dan Haskell has done a fine job in molding this team into the champions champi-ons they are like. Jimmy Frandsen hit for 14 as the only double-figure scorer for Panguitch. BV moved to 6-0, the Bobcats to 2-4. Escalante fell behind Wayne early before calling on Ryan Carter and John Imlay to stop Wayne stars Dax Anderson and Brad Webb. With defense in hand, the Moquis went on to lead 34-28 at the half and balanced scoring kept the Badgers off-stride. Chad Lyman, Gerald Roundy, Ryan Carter and Clay Stewart each drilled an even dozen, with Jason Griffin shooting in 10 and Gerry Liles 9 for the Moquis in this fine league win. This week, Escalante plays Milford and Panguitch. The Bobcats had a chance at Wayne as they played nip-and-tuck down the wire. Only a cold eight-point eight-point final quarter kept Panguitch from victory. A missed free throw, a long rebound and a half-court shot all went by the wayside in a whirlwind of final minute action in this battle. Elliott Brinkerhoff hit 12, Jimmy Frandsen and Aaron Howard 9. It was definitely a game PHS could have captured. |
