Show UDOT Warning On Illegal Signs Spring is here and with it comes campaigning, family parties and garage sales, so before getting started putting up signs, be certain that they arc placed legally. Posting signs on s.tatc highway signs or in the state right-of-way is illegal, warns the Utah Department of Transportation. Under Utah code, signs cannot be place on utility poles, fences, trees or street signs in the right-of-way. The signs arc not only an eyesore, they can be a safety hazard, too. Illegally placed signs can cut down visibility and obstruct important regulatory signs. The problem isn't just with campaign signs. Improperly placed signs also includes special event announcements, directions to parties and, of course, garage sales. UDOT policy is to remove and destroy illegally placed signs. The time and money spent removing signs is considerable and could be put to better use. If anyone has questions about where to place signs, contact the Utah Department of Transportation's encroachments office. |
