Show PREPARATION OF THE ESCALANTEKANAB RESOURCE RE-SOURCE MANAGEMENT PLAN Bureau of Land Management The Bureau of Lana Management Manage-ment is starting a land use plan called a Resource Management Plan (RMP) on 2.5 million acres of public pub-lic lands administered by the BLM within the Escalante andTCanab Resource Re-source Areas in southern Utah. We are seeking public assistance on decision de-cision ancT objectives which will be used for the next 15-20 years. Issues Is-sues which need solutions are 1) coal development and the protection of sensitive resources, 2) competing recreation uses, 3) National Conservation Con-servation Area nomination, 4) the protection of world-class scenery, and 5) the adjustment of land ownership own-ership to facilitate resource management. man-agement. The public lands in the planning area are located in Kane and Garfield Counties west of Capitol Capi-tol Reef National Park and the Glen Canyon Recreation Area. Topics to be covered in the RMP include vegetation management, manage-ment, wildlife habitat improvement, improve-ment, coalmineral development, protection of archeological values, fuelwood and post harvesting, livestock live-stock grazing, material sales, Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC's), Wild and Scenic Rivers, National Conservation Areas, rights-of-way, utility corridors, off highway vehicles (OHV's), riparian area improvement, recreation management, man-agement, water qualitysalinity, and watershed management. The planning process takes several sev-eral years to complete. The general planning schedule is: Project Scoping Scop-ing 1992. Inventory 199Z Alternatives Alterna-tives 1993, Analysis. 1993, Draft RMP 1994, Final RMP 1995. We plan on having many ways for people peo-ple to participate in the process. The BLM is contacting individuals, other Federal agencies. State and local lo-cal governments, and Indian tribes. We are also interested in talking to groups and will arrange special meetings upon request. People with information regarding Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC's), Wild and Scenic Rivers, or coal resource information are also invited to submit information.
