University for an outstanding short course project. He was selected to attend the USU course which covers all facets of recreation management condensed into two weeks of inten-! inten-! sive study. Recognition was for Baldwin's subject entitled, "Hunter Acceptance of Travel Management Strategies on the Sevier Plateau." This prob-j prob-j 1cm was chosen because of his I concern about the network of roads and resulting erosion being created i by hunters and off-road-vehicle users. Baldwin developed a questionaire in conjunction with USU that dealt specifically with travel management, manage-ment, road closures, and camping restrictions on the Sevier Plateau. The questionaire was targeted at the user-groups. It emphasized that the quality of hunting could be magni- I ficd by restricting travel to existing 1 roads. The questionaires were hand- delivered to hunters by district employees em-ployees who explained the process and the problems. By and large the hunters were receptive. Baldwin is one of three who since 1980 has completed a program pro-gram with no revisions. He has been district ranger for 10 years. |
