Show Eardley Files For State Senate Post Jim Eardley of St. George officially offi-cially filed today as a candidate for the Utah State Senate. Eardley seeks to represent Senate District 29, which includes Washington, Kane, Iron, and Garfield counties. Eardley, 43, is a St. George businessman. He was president and chief executive officer of Dixie Transport, the parent company of Dix-O-Gas, a family enterprise which was sold in 1987. He presently owns and operates Eardley Travel in St. George, which emphasizes em-phasizes bringing Japanese and Taiwanese tour groups to southern Utah and the surrounding area. Eardley is a newcomer to politics. An active Republican, he says he is seeking the state senate post to assure southwestern Utah a strong voice in the legislature on matters of concern to this area. Eardley is hopeful that his managerial and business experience can be put to use on some of the legislative committees wrestling with the unique problems which affect this part of the state. "Southern Utahns need a strong voice in the legislature. They need representation from men and women wom-en who are committed to helping us survive in a shifting economy. They need representation from people peo-ple who aren't carrying special interests in-terests or extra baggage from commitments com-mitments to certain political or economic factions. They need fair, honest representation from someone who is determined to provide a strong voice for southwestern Utah on capitol hill. "We don't have the numbers that some areas along the Wasatch Front have in the senate, so we have to compensate for that be sending leaders who are committed to studying each issue and providing a strong voice on those issues most directly affecting us. Although I am a political newcomer, I feel the experience ex-perience I have had in leadership positions not only in business but in civic and church affairs qualifies me to study each issue from an unbiased viewpoint, and make a decision based on the input of the voters and the merits of the case. I intend to pursue this office and to conscientiously provide the voice our area needs in the State Senate." |
