Show Escalante Marilyn Jackson Escalante is not in a rut, it's in "the ruts." It's a major obstacle course to get to familiar places, around, through and over the sewer construction. Funeral services were held Tuesday Tues-day for Freeman Alvey. Attending were son, William J. Alvey and wife of St. George, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Woolsey of Anaheim, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cowles of Las Vegas, Dr. and Mrs. Warren Woolsey and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Francisco of Cedar City. Wil-ford Wil-ford Davis, brother of the late Mildred Mil-dred Woolsey came from Piute County, and Lille Spencer accompanied accom-panied Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Loosly of Richfield. The students at both the high school and elementary met to see Marty Marcus and his collection of reptiles which he calls the Reptile Roundup. The students not only were able to see many kinds of turtles tur-tles and snakes, but also touch them. Thursday, the 4th, 5th and 6th grades boarded the bus for Pan-guitch Pan-guitch for the Science Fair held there. The Elementary students entered en-tered 21 of the 33 experiments exhibited ex-hibited winning five first-place ribbons, rib-bons, three second-place, two third-place third-place and four honorable mentions. Also held Thursday was the District Spelling Bee where our students did very well with Garrett Cottam placing 2nd, Travis Cottam 5th, Candace Barney 6th and Shawn Davis 7th. On Monday, students were entertained by the Virgin Valley Singers who traveled from Mcsquite, Ncv. The fire department responded to a call Wednesday evening at the Moqut Motel where a car pulling a travel trailer reported seeing a fire. Luckily, it was only a reflection and no damage was done. However, they appreciated the quick response by so many who were willing to help in case there actually had been an emergency. Dixie Leavitt met with future constituents at the high school to discuss concerns for the upcoming election. He wanted to familiarize himself with issues on this side of the state as he is seeking election to the state senate scat. The Relief Society held their annual an-nual 17th of March birthday party which was very successful. A lovely love-ly chicken dinner was served to over 200. If you missed the delightful fashion show that evening, you'll surely be out-of-step in Escalante! Among those attending from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Ewan Alvey and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Alvey who have been spending the winter in Overton, Nev. Lasca Eyre met Virginia Bauer in Cedar City and accompanied her to the festivities festivi-ties and to see brother, Berlin Os-born. Os-born. Edna Andregg visited the James Mclnelly family; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Church came from St. George where he works in the LDS Temple. Beth Blakey accompanied her mother, EvaDean Liston, and Mr. and Mrs. Scott Watts of Kanosh came to see the Twila Mclnelly family, as did Mr. and Mrs. Wells Mclnelly who shared their time with Orilla Cowles. Evelyn Heaps Whatcott accompanied accompa-nied Michelle Marsh from Cedar City to be with the Marsh relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Vivian Roundy visited visit-ed the Smith Alvey family as did college student, Frank Alvey. Also home from college for spring break are Mr. and Mrs. Steven Stratton who were at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Quay Simons, and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Christensen who joined the Norman Christensens and Lynn Griffins for the holiday. Melanie Griffin came from college col-lege to be with the Gene Griffin family who spent last week moving son Gary Griffin and family to Orem where he is employed as the payroll accountant at the Technical College there. Son, Mark Griffin is now in St. George working for Ence Realty. mmi:.;' -vyt :v,:-' -Jp itm'r Panguitch District Conservation Officer Norm McKee who is with the Department of Wildlife Resources spent several days explaining the Anne Haws and children came from St. George to be with the De-lane De-lane Griffin family, and Marilyn Brandt visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Griffin. Mr. and Mrs. Blake Schow came from Salt Lake City for a few days' visit. The Senior Citizens met for their birthday celebration in conjunction with the St. Patrick's Day holiday. Hal Shurtz accompanied the group with his guitar while they sang familiar fa-miliar songs. Brenda Griffin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delane Griffin pantomimed a violin solo for a very enjoyable evening. Verda Griffin is home after spending the winter with sister Verna Partridge in Salt Lake City. Wanlass Alvey has been hospitalized hospi-talized in SL George. Mary Griffin is out of the hospital there, but unable un-able to leave the area until she recovers re-covers further. Former residents Ernest Hill and wife Betty have both been hospitalized in the New Mexico area. Rex Masters was transported by ambulance to Garfield Memorial Hospital on Monday night with a possible heart attack. Mr. and Mrs. Randy Woolsey are the parents of a baby son born March 16. Little Trevor Scott Woolsey has dark brown hair, a brother Jason and a sister Stacy. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Woolsey and Mr. and Mrs. Robert James, and great-grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Arden Woolsey of Cedar City, Mary James of Sandy and Mr. and Mrs. Park Stapley of Sandy. Great-great grandmother Ire-ta Ire-ta Duffin lives in Missoula, Mont. An unfortunate accident that took place on Sunday on the Hole-in-the-Rock Road left the two Toyota pickups of Troy Olson and Jimmy Barney damaged, but luckily the two escaped without injury. Former high school teacher and coach at Escalante High School, Otto L. Baker, died at age 87 in a Salt Lake City hospital March 10. Mr. and Mrs. Hank Bolton have Mrs. Bolton's sister and husband visiting from Tehachapi, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Burton brought their friends Mr. and Mrs. Earl Whitney to enjoy the 17th of March festivities and to see the Bolton family. A letter from Elder Clint Porter who is serving an LDS mission in New Zealand was read in sacrament meeting Sunday. He will be home to report his mission April 10. Mr. and Mrs. Bart Carter went to Arizona to be with his mother who has recently undergone surgery there. Lori Liston went to Salt Lake City for medical appointments.
