Show Middle School Students Capture Awards At SUU Music Festival Even though Saturday's Sophomore Tournament in Panguitch conflicted with the Annual Region 12 Solo and Ensemble Music Festival at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Panguitch Middle School students who did take part performed exceptionally well, said Paul Hathcock, music instructor at Panguitch Middle School and Panguitch High School. Three of those students will attend state competition set for April 24 at Brigham Young University. Danny Yardley and Tyler Sanders, both 7th graders, performed a trumpet duet receiving a superior rating that qualified them for state competition. Brandon Hathcock, an 8th grader, performed a trombone solo, also receiving a superior rating for a trip to the state contests. Also receiving awards were Mayo Miller, 7th grade.with a superior rating for his tenor saxophone solo; Bonnie Nelson and Joslyn Christy, both 8th graders, for their flute duet (superior minus) rating; Sam Mullenaux, 7th grade, for his trumpet solo (superior minus); Brenda McKee and Angie Riggs; both 8th graders, for their clarinet duet (excellent rating); Catherine Howard, 7th grade, piano solo (excellent rating); and Laura Pierson, 8th grade, violin solo (excellent plus rating). |
