Show Annual Apricot Harvest Begins At Capitol Reef CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK The annual apricot harvest is getting underway at Capitol Reef National Park. The orchards are open for picking small quantities of fruit as it ripens. A good crop is expected despite the "nipping in the bud" effects of frost this spring. According to orchard manager Kent Jackson, the "U-Pick" price this year will be $8 per bushel or 50 cents per pound. Jackson estimates apricots will be available throughout July and suggests that individuals wanting large quantities of apricots should pick on and after July 18, when most of the fruit will be ripe. Although the park provides special orchard ladders, safer than the average homeowner's ladder, caution is strongly urged in all ladder use. Jackson suggest visitors visi-tors come by the visitor center to find out which orchards are best for harvesting. |
