Head Start Program Set In Area ESCALANTE Under a new grant recently obtained under the Southern Utah State CollegePaiutc Head Start Parent Sufficiency Project, Pro-ject, the first of a scries of special helps will feature a workshop by Ross Williams, M. Ed., on "Developing Self-Discipline In Your Child," set for Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m. at the old Escalante High School. The SUSCPaiute Head Start Sufficiency Program operates under a two-year grant from the federal government, and is designed to meet children's special needs from medical and dental to learning disabilities, dis-abilities, as well as the special needs of parents. Five Parent-Advocates function in the area under the program, with Diane Gallagher serving as the advocate ad-vocate for Escalante parents. Her special function is to help parents get the services they need through available agencies such as Job Service, Ser-vice, Social Services and Mental Health. Parent advocates help parents to understand the function of each agency and match their needs to the agency. They also analyze needs and set up workshops to meet them. The first workshop, "Developing Self-Discipline in Your Child" will help to meet one of those needs, Gallagher hopes. There is no charge for the workshop which will be conducted on a discussion basis. The grant is headed by Dori Crouch, project manager and Mary Winn, project coordinator, both i 1 Cedar City. Additional information may be obtained by contacting Gallagher. |
