She was honored at special half-time awards ceremony during Snow CollegeDixie College game. Etna Fox Honored For Her Community Service Elna Gardiner Fox, Circleville, was recognized at half-time of the Snow College football game Saturday Sat-urday as she received the Presidential Presiden-tial Service Citation for her contributions con-tributions to her community over the years. Mrs. Fox, her husband Shirl, and family members were guests of the college as the fourth-ranked Badgers battled the Dixie College Rebels. Snow College President Gerald Day listed a few of her accomplishments ac-complishments during a ceremony at half-time and then presented her with a plaque. Elna's life has been dominated by the cycle of seeing a need or a possible improvement and then cheerfully and quietly doing something some-thing about it The service citation is an attempt to recognize people like Elna, who make the lives of those around them better. Anyone attending the Piute County Fair during the last 15 years has seen the fruit of Elna's work. During this time she has chaired the fair, sold advertising space and collected money for the fair books as well as helping to produce and distribute the fair books. She has also chaired the Piute County Barbecue Dinner for several sev-eral years and assisted with the Piute County Extension Service's Christmas Fair for 10 years. She hung the first Christmas streetlight street-light decorations, complete with pole attachments, in Circleville. Along with her husband, she constructed con-structed and erected the first Nativity Nati-vity scene at Circleville Park. Many have benefitted from Elna's true spirit of "volunteerism." She organized and spearheaded a Ladies' Kitchen Band which play music at numerous functions, all the while continuing to serve in various LDS Church positions. po-sitions. Elna has always kept her eyes open to people who needed help and then she went the extra mile. She arranges for her women coworkers co-workers to make various craft projects pro-jects during lunch hour, cares for area children when their parents have other obligations. Neighbors and town widowers often benefit from Elna's hot rolls. Besides all of these volunteer functions, Elna holds down a regular job in the Piute County TreasurerRecorder's Office. |
