Show Pro Ganies Last on the Schedule For Country's Basketball Fans By John Yardley With high school basketball tournaments over and the NCAA's finally concluded, the only remaining b-ball is in the pros. The NBA will go on until June with their post season play. But, here is a final look at the colleges and high school results. Last Saturday night at Monroe, the 1-A All-Stars defeated the 2-A All-Stars 133-111 In a game with plenty of offense. The big scorers for the 1-A team was, you guessed It, Craig Rydalch of South Summit, Rydalch poured in a game-high 35 points. I Others who played well for us "small schools" were Shaun Shurtliff, Enterprise; Marty Gleave, Piute; Steve Ferry, North Summit; and Morgan Jensen, Gunnison. The guard line for the 1-Aers were ' Shurtliff, Gleave and Ferry stole the 2-A guards blind with turnover after turnover. So, a big feather in the cap for 1-A. They win that game much more often than they lose it. Monday night tiny Villanova from Pennsylvania knocked over number one Georgetown 66-64 for the NCAA national championship. The Wildcats shot an amazing 79 percent from the field to topple the top-ranked Hoyas. The game 'was well played and a thriller all the way. It was a contest of defense and strategy. The most valuable player for the game was guard Gary McLain who scored only eight points, but was such a superb ball-, handler that he got through the highly touted Hoya press all night long with a turnover. His ball-handling was as important as Dwane McClain's scoring. McClain was high man for Villanova with 17. In the NBA, the Lakers and the Denver Nuggets look to have the upper hand, while in the East, Milwaukee and Boston lead their respective divisions. The Celtics lead the 76ers by five games, and, just a hunch, the real obstacle for the defending champions may very well be the Bucks and not Philadelphia. Milwaukee is very tough. The Jazz are fighting for playoff spot In the midwest. Their nopes are still very much alive. |
