Show Frank R. Daly Daly Honored As 'Scouter Of the Year' Frank Daly was named "Scouter of the Year" at the annual Panguitch Third Ward awards banquet. Daly was honored for his outstanding service to scouting which has spanned more than a half century. The senior scouter who has been a sustaining member of scouting for more than 45 years has also received scouting's highest award, the Silver Beaver. Daly received a hunting knife and a book at the awards ceremony. The retired game warden with 30 years service, remembers his many years of taking cub scouts to Panguitch Lake camping. He chuckled over the kids' "water fights" and said they "always ate lots of hot dogs" and finished off with roasted mar-shmallows. He said he "always enjoyed the opportunities to take the boys camping." Daly turned the tables on those presenting him awards by presenting each member of Troop 681 with neckerchiefs over 20 years old. They were specially made for the 1964 centennial of the Panguitch Scout Council. Hunting knives were also awarded to Henry Jolley, scoutmaster frr Troop 681 for six years, and Lyle ' Sawyer, for his two years of service as scoutmaster to the troop. Royce Pollock, who served as assistant scoutmaster for the past seven years and as scoutmaster for the past two months, served as master of ceremonies for the evening. Earl Jolley completed all requirements for Eagle Scout and will be presented with the coveted Eagle badge at a court of honor at a later date. Scouts receiving awards were Gene Roundy and Russell Harris, life scout; James Matthews and Carlon Johnson, Star scout', Ricky Davenport, Travis Hatch and Howard Simkins, first class; Jason Henrie, second ' nass; David Frandsen, Ronnie. Davenport and Jason Miller, tenderfjot. The group was also awarded a total of 21 merit badges. |
