Show 4-H FOOD CONSERVATION AND SAFETY (Outdoor Cooking) Phase I: An individual exhibit shall consist of three biscuits on a stick or baked in a reflector oven or baked in a can. Phase II: An individual exhibit shall consist of one homemade outdoor reflector oven or buddy burner. Phase III: An individual exhibit shall consist of an original puppet show with script or an original flipchart with script to be used as a teaching device on food safety or a special educational display on outdoor cooking techniques. Phase IV: An individual exhibit shall consist of a baked product made in a dutch oven, entered on a paper plate or cardboard. KERIt FOOD PRESERVATION CONTEST (Sponsored by Kerr Glass Mfg. Corp.) Open to 4-H members enrolled in food preservation products. Exhibits Canned products 1 jar berries 1 variety 3 jars fruit 3 varieties 1 far of tomatoes or tomato juice 3 jars vegetables 3 varieties (meat may be substituted for one. 8 jars total. Participants in state contest must also submit a completed record book as outlined in the National 4-H Report Form. 4-H DRIED FOODS Phase V: 3 pint jars of dried food must include different varieties of both fruits and vegetables. 4-H CAKE DECORATING EXHIBITS Baked and decorated cake not to exceed 10" diameter if round or square or 10"xl3" if rectangular. Height cannot exceed 12 inches. The disposable but sturdy base sheet should be 1 inch bigger than the cake. Decorations must be on baked cakeand meet specified size limit or exhibit will be disqualified. Beginning: Unit I One decorated cake. Design may be applied with colored sugar, coconut, candies, etc. (all decorations must be edible.) Beginning: Unit II One decorated cake. Design using at least three of the following tubes: writing, leaf, star, drop and petal. Striping or color-flow methods may be used. Intermediate: Unit III One decorated cake. A minimum of one decoration learned in unit 3 from each of the following three categories should be on the cake: Flower made on flat surface, border, sugar mold. Non-edible items not allowed. Advanced: Unit IV & V One decorated stacked cake using a minimum of one flower made on a flat flower nail, one border or side trim learned in unit IV and writing OR (on decorated tiered cake using platforms and pillars) a minimum of one flower made on a lily nail or hooked to a wire stem and one border or side trim learned in unit V. Create your own: Unit VI See guidelines for completion and display of project work in manual. 4-H PUBLIC SPEAKING Talks must be original and 5-7 minutes In length. They may or may not be memorized. Brief notes may be used. A copy of the talk is to be furnished to contest judges. The speech should be related to some aspect of 4-H. Public Speaking contest will be held at the , Panguitch Elementary School on August 18 starting at 9:30 a.m,. The I public is invited. ' 4H 4-H STYLE DRESS REVUE CONTEST Entrants in the dress revue contest must be bonafied 4-H club members during the current year who have made and accessorized their outfits during the same current year. Girls must have completed at least three years of clothing project work at the time of the contest. Girls must have passed their 14th birthday and not have passed their 19th birthday on January 1st. The Dress Revue Contest this year will be held at Panguitch Elementary School on August 15th at 2:00 p.m. This contest Is closed to the public. DEMONSTRATIONS This contest is open to any 4-H club member. Presentations may be given in any of three categories; 1. Demonstation of skills or methods with a result or finished product. 2. Illustrated talks ideas are communicated with the aid of visual materials. 3. Slide series picture story with live or taped narration; photography and narration to be work of the individual or team. The presentations are to deal with some phase of 4-H, in which participants are enrolled such as agriculture, foods, clothing, etc. Presentation should not exceed 20 mintues in length. It is suggested that demonstrations be given before a live audience several times before contests are held. Demonstrations will be held in the Panguitch Elementary School on August 18th starting at 9:30 a.m. The public is invited. 4-H ENTOMOLOGY Unit Ai Pre-Entomology: (Limit to 9 years old) Boxes of insects containing at least 10 different adult insects. Unit I: Boxes of insects containing at least 25 different adult insects -representing at least 5 orders. Unit II: Boxes of insects containing at least 50 different adult insects representing at least 8 orders. At least 25 of the insects must have been collected during the current year, (a statement to this effect should accompany the collection. Unit III: Boxes containing at least 100 different adult insects representing at least 10 orders. At least 50 of the insects must have been collected during current year, (a statement to this effect should accompany the collection) 4-H RECORD BOOKS We are asking all 4-H members to submit their completed record books. These will be judged and returned at the achievement programs. 4-H FASHION SHOW AND AWARDS PROGRAM This program will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 18 at the Panguitch Elementary School. Phase II: Four muffins one variety, or one standard size loaf quick bread. Phase HI: Four baking powder biscuits, or four cheese roll-ups, or four beaten batter puffs, baked in muffin tins. Phase IV: One loaf white bread or one loaf whole wheat bread. Advanced, International foods, Microwave: One variety of fancy baked products, bread, rolls,' cookies, or cakes. (Pies are excluded from this list because of poor keeping quality. Also, creamed filling on or in any baked product should not be used). REQUIRED : Copy of recipe on 3x5 card. 4-H FOOD PRESERVATION EXHIBITS Phase I: 3 Jars- fruit 3 varieties (tomatoes or berries may be included) Phase II: 2 jars of jam or marmalade 2 varieties; 2 jars of jelly or berry syrups 2 varieties 4 jars total Phase in: 2 jars of fruits or berries 2 varieties or Phase IV: 2 jars of vegetables 2 varieties; 1 jar of pickles or relishes 5 jars total 4-H CANNED FOODS FOR ONE FAMILY MEAL Exhibit shall consist of: Four jars of canned food that might be used for luncheon, dinner or supper. May include fruits, vegetables, jam or jelly and relishes. May also include meat, (jars may vary in size) MENU FOR THE MEAL Print or type on a 3x5 card. Menu will include foods of a well-balanced meal. The four canned foods will be only part of the menu. Exhibit not accepted unless complete with 4 jars of food and the menu. 4-H child care Phase I: Exhibit shall. consist of one item from the following list: A. A handmade toy made by the 4-H member in which the total cost of material has not exceeded $3.00. A short description of what a child will learn from interaction with the toy should accompany the exhibit. B. A handmade puppet with an accompanying story to be used by the 4-H member and neatly printed in ink or typed. The story is to be an original story written by the 4-H member and neatly printed in ink or typed. The puppet likewise should be made by the 4-H member. C. An original flannel board story with accompanying flannel board characters. Both should be original with the 4-H member. (Do not include flannel board in the exhibit.) Phase II: An exhibit should consist of one of the following but not both: A. A babysitter's kit. The contents of the kit should be contained in suit case, sturdy box, or draw string bag. The container should not exceed 24" in length. Each kit should contain at least eight different involvement items for young children. Four of the items must be handmade by the 4-H member. The remaining can be commercial products. B. A quiet book. The quiet book should have as a minimum 7 pages with different activities for young children to do in a quiet situation. The quiet book must have at least two pages that are original to the 4-H member, not copied from a commercial pattern. (Total cost not to exceed $5). 4-H HOME ENVIRONMENT EXHIBITS Phase I : "Design in Nature" and "You and Your Home" A member may enter one exhibit from the following list. a. Batik, tie dye, or vegetable printed fabric mounted on stretcher frame (maximum size 2'x3'). b. Framed picture. c. Four place mats, dresser scarf, or tablecloth. d. , Ojo de Dios up to 3 in a set (maximum size 2'x3'). e. Two hot pads. f. Laundry bag. g. Covered wastebasket. Phase II: "Organizing Design" and "Beautify your Bedroom". Enter one of the following: a. Bulletin or display board (maximum 2'x3'). b. Hanging pocket (maximum size 2'x3'). c. Picture matted and framed. Phase HI: "Design for Study" and "Color and Design in the Home". Enter one of the following: a. Desk organizers (includes 4 containers and matching ink blotter). b. Study lamp. c. Privacy folding screen (maximum 5'x5'). Phase IV: "Accessories" and "Color and Design in the Home". Enter one of the following: a. One pillow or sham decorative or functional (maximum size 2'x3'), b. Quilt (yarn tied, yarn tied and quilted using yarn in a decorative design, hand quilted using thread, quilted using a machine. c. Bedspread. Phase V: "Design Your Own" and "Make and Beautify Furniture for Your Home". Enter one of the following: a. Finished or refinished pieces of furniture. b. Upholstered or reupholstered piece of furniture. c. Portfolio showing plan and design of bedroom (as outlined in manual). 4-H KNITTING Phase I; Knit with knit, or knit and purl stitch. Articles such as slippers or hat. Phase II: Knit with increase, decrease, stockinette and ribbing. Articles such as cap, slippers or sweater. Phase III: Knit with pickup stitches and or buttonholes. Advanced Phases: Knit with Cattern stitch. Knit with com-ination of colors. Knit with four needles. Combination of knit with fabric. Knit by machine or other option listed in members guide. 4-H CROCHET Phase I: Single worsted yarn crochet stitch. Articles such as pot holder, house slippers and pillow tops. Phase II: Worsted yarn crochet with Increase, decrease In single or double stitch. Articles such as baby booties and afghan. Phase III: Crochet with threads and or fingering-sports or baby yarn. Articles such as doilies, sweater, gloves and socks. Advanced Phase: Crochet in pattern stitch with combination of colors with fabric and embroidery or cross stitch. Articles such as afghan, sweater, baby article, bedspread and tablecloth. 4-H MACRAME Beginning projects: i.e., necklace, small owl, belt. Advanced Projects: i.e., large plant holder, wall hanging, purse. 4-H ARRANGING FLOWERS AND DRIED MATERIALS Phase I: Pressed Flower Picture. Phase II: Decorated wicker fan, decorated broom, or Decorated reed bundle. Phase III: Dried flower and foilage arrangement of oval or triangular design. (Not to include artificial flower or foilage.). Phase IV: Dried or artificial flowers used in table or miniature arrangement in one of the suggested designs. As outlined in manual). 4-H ARTS AND CRAFTS An exhibit shall consist of articles a 4-H member has made or created in their arts and crafts project. Kite accepted. OTHER 4-H PROJECTS An individual may make only one entry in each of the following projects: Consumer Education, Electricity, Health.
