Utah Power Readies Annual Alternate Energy Contest The contest is open to all seventh, eighth and ninth grade students in the area. Students are asked to enter projects depicting the use of an alternative source of energy, Wind-powered electric generators, solar . earth homes and Schneider-hydroelectric generators are examples of some of last year's entries. "The objective of the contest is to encourage conservation of conventional energy through utilization of alternate energy sources," said Anna Rae Johnson, contest coordinator. "Utah Power encourages development of alternate renewable energy systems such as solar, geothermal, wind, low-head hydro and garbage." Deadline for entering the contest is Feb. 1, 1984. The grand prize winners will be selected from the 7th, 8th and 9th grade first-place winners and will receive $100. first, second and third place winners will receive $75, $50 and $25 cash prizes, respectively. All entrants will receive a tee-shirt and certificate of participation. Entry forms and contest rules can be obtained by contacting Anna Rae Johnson or Margaret Oler, 896-4434. |
