Show Panguitch resident and truck driver Clint Pollock lays alongside highway awaiting ambulance after overturning logging rig on Utah Highway II. A logging truck driver narrowly escaped death or serious injury in an accident early Friday afternoon about one mile west of Todd's Junction on Utah Highway 14. Clint Pollock, 26, Panguitch was hauling logs for Charles E. Holliday Trucking when his equipment apparently failed about 1:30 p.m. on the winding highway. According to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Roger Cutler, Kanab, who investigated the accident, the torsion bar locking cap on the logging unit appeared to have broken, shifting the weight rapidly on the truck as it rounded the corner, causing the crash. Pollock said he heard a "pop" and felt the load shift. When his rig came to rest, the drivers side of the cab was totally crushed into the Twenty six year old Pollock was bndy torn up in muscles in back and arms, but luckily sustained no majirtnjurics in the mishap. Driver Escapes Serious Injury in Truck Crash mountainside and Pollock quickly exited the passenger side, fearing the logs would be thrust forward into the cab. Fortunately for Pollock, they fell sideways, instead, but part of the rig was thrown across the highway from the force of the impact. Pollock was assisted by two fellow employees at Holliday who were driving the route in a pickup. He was treated at the scene and transported by Emergency Medical Technicians from Alta: Karl Ilea ton, Coleen Heaton and Florence Heaton to Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch where he was treated for torn and bruised muscles. Assisting Cutler was Trooper Craig Twitchell. A crane being used at the worksite of the logging company was brought down and used to clear away most of the logs. A diesel wrecker came from Cedar City to clear the wreckage and the highway was back to normal by about 6 p.m. |
