Show Panguitch Youth Receives Eagle Jerred LeFevre, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry LeFevre has earned his Eagle Scout award at 13, making him possibly the youngest Eagle Scout in the southern region of Utah. Jerred passed the last of his Eagle requirements in April. He was presented with one of scouting's highest awards at a special Court of Honor where he received his Eagle badge Just before leaving for Hawaii to spend two weeks at basketball camp. Jerred is a member of Scout Troop No. 661. His scoutmasters are Rod Parry and Virgil Anderson. At the special court of honor, Jerred's Blazer leaders David and Karen Ricks paid him a special tribute as did his scoutmasters. His sister, Ronda, performed a piano solo, "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Presentation of Jerred's Eagle award was made by William Blackwell, Scouting District Chairman, Marysvale. Bishop John Jerred LeFevre Yardley also participated in the program and Doyle Christensen administered the Eagle oath. Jerred earned a total of 37 merit badges. He said his favorite was "Sports and Athletics" because "you were competing against yourself." He said the hardest to achieve was "Book-binding" and he lamed the most from the Citizenship series: "Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation and Citizenship in the World." For his special Eagle project, he constructed a new bulletin board on the wall for a storage building at the Panguitch po:;t office parking lot. He said he appreciated the assistance of scouts Kenny Allen, Quinn Brinkerhoff and Dale lpson on the project. Jerred holds the office of scribe in his present scout troop. He has been active in scouting since a Cub Scout where he earned Cub Scouting's highest award, the Arrow of Light. He also earned the "On My Honor" award in scouting and the "Bear Claw" award which he earned while attending Thunderidge Camp. Earning his Eagle is not the end of the line for Jerred in scouting since he said he plans to earn a total of 50 merit badges as well as to earn bronze, silver and gold palms. He said he is grateful to his parents for the encouragement they gave him and to his parents and his counselors for the teaching they provided and the help they gave. |
