Show Women Caught, Qiarged in Shoplifting Two adult females, traveling through Panguitch, were arrested July l on suspicion of shoplifting. The two were observed by Welcome Mart employee Terri Brown about 6:30 p.m. placing flashlight batteries into an open purse. The two suspects left the premises but were detained by Mrs. Brown and asked to return to the store. One in-dividaul fled the scene but the other returend to the store and Panguitch City police officer John Woodruff was called. Woodruff arrested the one suspect, Carol Sue Smith, 23, Phoenix and took approximately $30 worth of merchandise into evidence. The second individual, Cheryl Rimer, 20, Vancouver, British Columbia wa arrested approximately two and one-half hours later with the assistance of Arnold Kcown, County Fire Control officer, as she walked down a Panguitch side street trying to elude searchers. Both females were cited with theft, a class B misdemeanor, and taken into custody. They appeared before Judge Wayne Holman that same evening, pleading guilty to tlie charge. They were fined $299 each and sentenced to six months In jail. Sentence was suspended and the fine reduced to $100 for each. They were released after meeting their fines. |
