Show Escalante SUP Names Officers ESCALANTE The Hole-In-The-Rock Chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers elected officers for 1980 in a recent Escalante meeting. Elected as president was Wayne Banks; president elect, Hal Shurtz; secretary-treasurer, Richard Crawford, and Ivan Willis and Delane Griffin as directors. Membership in the Hole-In-The-Rock Chapter of the SUP is open to any resident of Garfield County who is a direct descendent of a Utah pioneer. Associate memberships are open to any individual who is willing to subscribe to the ideals held by the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. The major project slated for 1980 is a promotion of a relay excursion over the route taken by the Hole-In-The-Rock pioneers, from Escalante to the Hole-In-The-Rock at the edge of the Colorado River. The relay will be run in segments ol 10 miles each with the official runner ol each segment being a direct descer dent of a Hole-In-The-Rock pioneer. Applications for additional runners will be accepted from anyone whe desires to participate. A horse back and jeep trek will alsc be organized. The relay will be sponsored wit! cooperation of the San Juan Centennial Commission who will direct efforts I. from the Colorado River to Bluff, Utah.
