Show Region 12 Schools Open League With Close Games League action opened in traditional style Friday and continued Saturday in Region 12, the stale's 1 A school division with two overtimes and several other close contests. In Friday games, Escalante edged Panguitch 49-47; Gunnison slipped by Enterprise, 50-47; Parowan beat Gunnison, 47-44; North Sevier squeaked by Parowan 54-53 and Beaver drubbed Milford 65-45. In Saturday encounters, North Sevier overpowered Enterprise 49-43 and Kanab upended Beaver 74-73. Piute's Shane Millett scored with three seconds in regulation play to send his quintet into overtime at 47-47 against a scrappy Valley team. Lon Dalton managed to add one more goal for the T-birds in the overtime, which were the only points scored in the final three minutes, giving coach Kirt Robinson a 49-47 victory. Valley had several chances from the foul line but couldn't connect. Foul shooting was the story at Wayne County as coach Chet Torgerson's Badgers edged Clare Ramsey's Bryce Valley crew 65-62 in the other overtime contest. The Badgers' fast break with Gus Williams at 19 points, Ned Taylor at 20 points, and Brett Albrecht 11 points, was difficult to stop. Ben Smith and Brett Chynoweth canned 24 and 15 points, respectively, for the Mustangs. Coach Kay Engelstead came up eight points j 1 ; ' , ' short on his home court as the Moquis of Escalante r took advantage at the foul ? line in the final minute to give Escalante a 49-41 win over Panguitch. North Sevier switched places with Gunnison after a 54-53 thriller at Parowan. Brady Anderson drilled a foul shot ' with one second , remaining after a Ram ' lane violation, which gave the Wolves a third attempt from the foul line. Anderson canned 19 against the Rams and 21 against Enterprise. As his team edged Enterprise 49-43. Todd Cooper, Dan Robinson, Mike Thornton and Pat Benson, led the Ram attack offensively as they defeated Gunnison 47-44. Beaver had to come from a 14-polnt deficit to beat its arch rival Milford 65-45 in Friday's action. Sophomore Blair Coon, Arlen Mayer and Jeff Atkin put the pressure on the Beavers, establishing a23-9lead.ShcpYardley, Rick Carter and Kelly Smith came alive to surge Beaver ahead. Kanab entertained Beaver for the second night of action, providing an overtime thriller for a 74-43 victory for the Cowboy fans. "We got a lot of steals in the fourth quarter, but we clicked too late," said young Todd Petersen, whose Beavers tied the game on Smith's last-second shot. Hal Hamblln's Glover boys canned 20 apiece, while David Crosby had 16, and Eric Barnnet added 12 for the Cowboys. Burt Myers sank 16, Smith 14 and Carter 13 for Beaver.
