The Highway Patrol Assigns New Trooper to Area Not too many young men actually follow the dream of their youth and . s trail along in the footsteps of their idol- Craig Twitchell, 30, newest Utah Highway Patrol trooper assigned to the Garfield County area, not only followed his dream but followed his idol right to his Panguitch doorstep. Over 10 years ago Twitchell formed his desire to become a Utah Highway Patrol trooper because of the fine example set by longtime trooper and Panguitch resident, Otho "Buck" Bulkley. Reassigned just recently from the Kanab Port of Entry where he served from May through the end of November, Twitchell stated he was "really happy" to be in the Panguitch area. A Cannonville native, he is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Twitchell who also have another son, Doug, with the Highway Patrol. After graduating from Bryce Valley High School, Twitchell spent three years on active duty with the U.S. Army stationed in Okinawa. Following his service time, he worked three years at Hill Air Force Base, hauled logs for Kaibab, and drove a truck for Arizona fuels. hauling crude oil before deciding to apply to the Highway Patrol. After being accepted, Twitchell had two weeks orientation, eight weeks training at the Utah Police Academy in Salt Lake City, field training during his Port of Entry assignment, and several two and three day training sessions before being assigned to the Garfield County area. He and his wife, Christy, who was reared in Bountiful, and their three . children, Tiffany, 7, April, 5, and Vincent, 13 months will be living in Paneuifh.
