Show Gathering at Lloyd Bacon's Conoco station in Escalante, members of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades Escalante Students Raise Charity Funds ESCALANTE - Aided by beautiful weather 44 third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade Escalante elementary school students participated in a bike-a-thon on Friday morning. Compiling a total of 580 miles, the of Escalante Elementary school prepare to embark on the scheduled bike-a-thon. route to raise funds enthusiastic bike riders were paid a specified amount per mile by their individual sponsors to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Society. The route began at the Conoco station in the center of town and terminated at the Hole-in-the-Rock turnoff, 10 miles southeast. Three of twelve students who rode a total of 20 miles each in less than two hours were third graders. Most students rode 10 miles each. The huridreds of dollars raised by the energetic riders will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Society for use in research into the dreaded childhood disease.
