Show Remodeling Underway On New Development Center The new development center in Panguitch has been teeming with life this past three weeks. Under the care of Merwin Brown and Pat Dix, maintenance engineers for Garfield County School District, the old Panguitch Hospital building has been brought back to a useful being. Crews consist of Panguitch High School students from Jack Soper's Vocational Construction classes and enables them to gain a great deal of "on-the-job" train'ng in a remodeling program. It is also a great help to the development center staff due to an extremely limited budget. Approximately 30 percent of the building has been restructured for use by the senior citizens. Planning in cludes a light reading and game room, handicraft area, meeting room and facilities for movies. Although these plans are concrete, Joseph M. Jerome, center director, is issuing a plea to the local citizens for whatever help they can offer. "The bulk of our funding for this project will come from state and federal grants. This means that our money will be very tight until after the beginning of the new fiscal year. Therefore, If you have a few pieces of furniture you don't need or perhaps some extra time on your hands, we could certainly use the assistance," says Mr. Jerome. Another 30 percent of space is rapidly becoming a community art center which will be open to students of all ages and will house the Panguitch Art Guild. The remainder of the building, will be dedicated to students witn certain learning -disabilities from Piute, Garfield and Kane counties. |
