Show Panguitch Council Mulls Items at Regular Meeting Panguitch City Manager Bruce Fullmer and Councilman Jon Torgeraon gave a report on the Department of Transportation workshop they attended in Richfield to members of the city council meeting last week. Jay Proctor and Clem Church were present to help decide how best to evaluate the signs in the city and county. It was decided to try to make it a Joint effort with the city and county. Applications for the grant to help fund the signs is to be into the DOT by February 15. Race track business was discussed. It was decided to have Jay Crosby and Mr. Fullmer make arrangements for a public meeting to decide on a committee for the race track, as Harold Sevy has resigned this position. It was also suggested that the other people now serving on the committee be contacted to see if they still want to remain. There is 16,000 available to improve the stables. The councilmen suggested they paint and repair or replace the stable doors in need. Mayor Wallace G, Lee will attend the Lion's Club meeting Monday night to,see if they still want to be involved with the track and also if they will want to donate labor to some of the projects. There is some Title Six money available for employees. The applicants must have been unemployed for IS weeks. Also there is some money to hire boys to help during the busy time of the year. There was some discussion on the Housing and Urban development program. Projects will go through the city council. There will be an appraisal of work needed and then bids will be made available to the public. A limit of $5,000 will be placed on each home needing work done. This project has to be finished by August 31. The council gave Jay Proctor an inscribed plaque for the 16 years of service he gave as the city recorder. Park problems were discussed. The foot bridge needs to be braced. Lighting is something the council would like to see done. Fullmer will contact Cedar City's manager to find out if he can help with suggestions. Park problems were divided among the councilmen as follows: lights, Mayor Lee; fountains, bar-beque pit, sprinkler heads, Jon Torgerson; tennis net and posts, Jim Hatch; foot bridge, Bruce Fullmer and Terry Matthews; fences, Frank Houston. Torgerson also made the suggestion the city put some split rail benches all around the park for people to sit on. Fullmer gave information on home Insulation and conserving energy. Every person will receive a booklet in the mail telling of ways to Improve Insulation and save energy. There will be t200 given to persons who makes the most improvement. There will be a seminar and display given March 31. The gun and kit will be purchased from Great Western Serum Co. It was decided to have fire chief Jay Crosby check on the fire fighting equipment for sale. The mayor would like some letters to the Lion's Club and the Business Professions Womens to show the city council's appreciation for their help and support with the bond election. He also feels that from time to time it would be a good idea to let the fire department and our police department know that they are appreciated for their good work. A letter from the department of transportation was read, concerning the installation of no parking signs on the south side of the highway by the school, It was the feeling of the council that this is a school problem and should be handled as such. Clem Church of, the DOT agreed. Councilmen also discussed the parking of trucks on the Main Street. It was decided to make the hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. a 2 hour parking and enforce this rule. Torgerson and Matthews discussed buying a flatbed to haul their cold mix in. They also discussed the idea of buying used cars as police cars. |
