Show 5, - Garfield Commissioners Hear Bonding Proposal A variety of items were discussed during the regular meeting of the GarfieM County Commission last week. Carl LeFevre, St. George requested a quit claim deed for some property he owns, and which he does not have a correct deed. The commission recommended that he have a title search completed on the property before any commission action is taken. Bob Paul of Palaston Mining told the commission he is considering opening the Shakespear Mine and asked that Garfield County back the project. The proposal would include that Matthews and Wright, New York City, sell industrial revenue bonds in the amount of five million dollars and asked that the county back the venture. Jim Thomas and Melford Ahlstrom of Tropic told the commission that other companies have core-drilled some of this property and there is a large amount of coal in the vicinity. The commission did not make a decision on the matter. Iron County would like the county to buy 3,000 yards of gravel at $2.61 a yard. This is located at Castle Valley, the commission will decide at a later date. County Recorder Lyle Miller came in to discuss the possibility of Panguitch City buying their own paper and using the Xerox machine without cost. It was decided the county should continue charging 10 cents a copy which Is enough to cover cost Mrs. Miller also asked about keeping her used typewriter which was agreed to, and she was also given permission to purchase a much needed Tiling cabinet. Lenore Martin of the Fish Tale Lounge came in about changing beer and dance hall ordinance No. 40, sec. 11 concerning selling beer while dancing. The commissioners decided to study this ordinance until the next meeting before they made a decision. Allen and Olva Munson operators of the Dog House at Pink Cllf f Village came in about the same ordinance. They also stated they would like the sale of beer extended past the time now stated in the ordinance as midnight until 1 a.m. Afton Church, Edra Miller and Beverly Orrett were appointed as members of the Mental Health Committee for the Five County Association of Governments. Attorney David Mower discussed Senate Bill 22 and 23, the circuit court laws, now before the legislature. He recommends the county write a letter to Rep. Lloyd Frandsen and Sen. Ivan Matheson, encouraging them to vote for these bills. The commissioners decided they would talk to Don Liston of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service about the drought areas money and a application for these monies. The county is to pay bee inspector Verd Worthen $3.50 an hour including traveling time (one way), plus mileage to exterminate a diseased swarm of bees at Escalante. The county needs more signs placed around to conform to state regulations. Commissioner Jay Proctor and Sheriff Keith Fackrell will tour the county roads to determine which signs are needed. A letter will be written to Sen. Matheson and Rep. Frandsen in favor of a minimum tax to be attached to small parcels of lands.
