Show Escalante Chit Chat Fay Alvey March came In like a lamb so get braced for a horrible exit. The weather is so mild some folks have started to abreviate their clothing. There are still some down with flu and others back in circulation coughing like mad. Jim Gates is still in the Panguitch Hospital and not improving very fast. Anthony Coombs of Boulder took his father, Eph to the Panguitch Hospital where he stayed a week, then the Uvonn Roundys brought him home. Lavina Pollock spent most of the week there with pneumonia, but is home feeling much better. Merrill and Lenora Porter came from Alesa, Ariz, to take Rol and Mine Porter back to Provo for Rol's checkup. Klyn and Marlene Haws and daughter Jillyn spent the weekend in Phoenix. Pat Sorensen went to Michigan to be with her mother who is ill. The Ron Schows have a new grandson born to Susan and Denny Thurston in Richfield. Dennis and Pauline Lott and daughters went to Salt Lake City for material to finish their house. Everett and Carolyn Williams and family of Wayne County spent the weekend here. The Gene Griffins and the Frank Rowleys went to St. George for the tournament. The Griffins left their girls in Panguitch at the Wilford Roes. The Rowleys stayed at the home of the Ron Guy mans in St. George. Lynn Gates went to take his father, Lloyd to the games and that is where Lloyd passed away. It was a terrible shock but he died among his townspeople doing what he liked best. A big percent of the population took in the tournament and report that the home team did very well. Dahl Liston was presented a trophy. Our team goes to Salt Lake City for finals. Nancy and Julie Droubay spent several days in Richfield. Others having business there were John and Yukon Norman, Nelda and Barbara Munson. Dot Coombs and daughters of Boulder joined Sariah Alvey, myself and LaRue Spencer for a day there. We visited briefly with the Del Wilsons who live there now It was good to see them again. Stan Huntington of Cedar City brought Valeree and sons here to visit at the Hal ShurU home. Julie was also home. The Forest Service employees went to Cedar City for meetings. Othert. having business there were Darrell and Dianne Alvey, Vernon and Rula Spencer and Leah Griffin Joe and Sandy Caiter and family spent the weekend in Provo. Usher and Eva Spencer had business there. They took Vera Davis to visit Lorin Cot-tarn who was scheduled for surgery Ott and Hilda Roundy spent the weekend in Monroe. The Coty Mounteers had son Jerry and wife here from Cedar City for the weekend. Dawn Griffin and kids went north and brought back her Excel) grandkids to tend while Evan and Nicki took in the ball tournament Amanda Marriage and Vicki Davis or Panguitch spent another day here. Vicki visited at the Grant Spencer home and Amanda at homes of folks over sixty. She took me as a guide in the forenoon and Nell Barker afternoon Had a letter from Ferrel Roundy in California wanting me to ask the people of this area to remember and write down choice stories experienced and told by the natives to presserve them for future generations. Seems like Nethella Woolsey spoke of going this route. Maybe the two of you can get together. We all join Morris and Neta Shirts in being proud of the honors won by their granddaughter Andrea Shirts, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Morris Slpine Shirts of Cedar City. Andrea has two tournament debate trophies to her credit. She debates with Steve Bringhurst, a sophomore from Springville for SUSC On academic scholarship Andrea is also the president of the Southern Utah Forensic Association. She has traveled over 11,000 miles with debate teams since her first trip as a freshman last year. This year she won second place in debate at the BYU trounament and was third place contestant in senior division debate at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. Dr. Shirts won some recognition for being a Studebaker fan owning seven. His favorite is a 1963 Avanti which he drives to and from work. He overhauls them himself visiting junk yards for parts. Arden Taylor was home for the weekend. HeandMaeVonn have decided this commuting is for the birds so plan to sell out and go where the employment is. Alfred Chiono and Doug Ricks took turns going to Salt Lake City so there was always someone home to feed the rabbits. Bill Neal was home for the weekend. Babs Neal spent part of last week north on stake relief society business. Ethyl Griffin entertained the special interest group Monday night. We get a few more out each time. Claron Barney has found something interesting in Richfield and keeps going back. There's all this talk of marriage ties but regardless of what is said there's no such thing as a marriage tie, the man comes out ahead. The annual March party and homecoming to be held Saturday, March 22 with dinner at noon in the South Ward church followed by a program and auction. A dance at night in the high school gym will be featured. Everyone 25 and over or married are invited to attend. |
