Show Need For Pride Told At Veterans Day Banquet A nation without pride Is a nation headed for the scrap heap" was stated by Dale Madson, featured speaker at the annual Veterans Day Banquet which was held on Monday, Nov. 11 at the City Room in Panguitch. Mr. Madson told, a. group of American Legion members and wives, and American Legion Auxiliary senior and junior, members that each generation must meet the evils of its time and that we should get over negativism, be proud to be Americans and support the Democratic processes. He also stated that we should have respect for the heritage of our citizenship, be alert to face challenges, support actions that bring peace and not retreat from the demands of justice. Mr. Madson is the state membership chairman of the American Legion and Vice-Chairman of the National Committee on Americanism for the Legion. A ham dinner was served by the American Legion Auxiliary under the direction of Caryl Hatch, President and assisted by Loraine Allen, Merle Stowell, Norine Allen, Cleo Henrie, Cleo Hatch and Afton Church. Also participating on the program were members of the Junior Auxiliary who sang America the Beautiful, and the 1974 Girls Staters, Jana Gillies who talked on how Girls S'ate helped her to appreciate our form of government, Jayneil Crosby who gave some of the highlights of Girls State, Michelle Riggs who talked on what it meant to her to be an American and Doris Barney who expressed appreciation to all Veterans for their sacrifice and loyalty in defending their country and freedom for all. Mr. Jim Yardley, Unit Ajutant, acted as Master of Ceremonies. A business meeting was held by members of the Legion at the end of the banquet and the following members were elected to offices for the coming year: Commander-Frank Henrie, Vice Commander-Matt Houston, Sgt. at Arms-George Proctor. |
