Show Nixon Wins Bigger Than Before Owens Wins, Loses In County In racking up their tremendous nation-wide landslide victory President Richard M. Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew won a bigger Republican victory in this election In Garfield County than they did in 1968. The Nlxon-Agnew ticket tallied 1290 votes in Garfield County this time, while Me-Govern Shrlver totaled a small 242, running way behind the rest of the Democratic slate. In 1968 the county votes gave the Nlxon-Agnew ticket 1033 while the separate Humphrey and Wallace tickets got 453 votes between them. Home grown Congressloanl candidate Wayne Owens found at the polls that truly "The prophet Is without honor In his own country." Although winning handily over Republican rival Sherman Lloyd In the state In the race for the congressional scat, Wayne failed to carry Garfield County, tallying 571 votes to Lloyd's 1022. In the Garfield County Commission races Yardley won with 1153 votes over Independent Daniel A. Bartlett, Sr's 136 for the 4-year post and Repub-canGriffin Vron by 938 over Democratic candidate Earl Jol-ley's 610 for the 2-year post. The County voted "For" on all the constitution changing amendments. In the local school board races not a single incumbent member of the school board was returned to office.
