Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY Still no moisture, a few clouds but all they brought was wind. It looks discouraging for the farmers and stockmen. Fighting weather conditions are bad enough without all those wilderness howlers. The four corners group organ-lied and held meetings here and in Cedar City to look at all the angles and try to curb this wilderness epidemic. Lavina Pollock is visiting the Vic Van Oostendorps in California. Guy Pollock and sons came from Richfield to erect a marker at the grave of Allen. Rochelle Heap is wearing one arm in a cast she fell from a dry land boat and broke it. Her parents the Don Heaps took her to Panguitch and had it cast. The next day she fell and blacked her eye. The Heaps had overnight guests from Oregon, Jess and Ronnie Low-der and family. The Heaps spent the weekend in Hatch and Cedar City. The Lorenzo Griffins had Lewis and family from Provo, Lois Reeves and family from Las Vegas for the weekend. Dale Schow and wife spent a few days here with Emmet Porter. Rol and Mina' Porter came from Mesa, Arizona, with a new pickup. Dale Marsh has a new touring car. Dale and Doyl Cottam went to Panguitch on County business. The Blake Robinsons had Ben and Renee Porter, son Coy and daughter Charlotte here from Provo, Blake D. and Kathy and two kids from Salt Lake City, Mate and Ruth Baugh and family from Tropic. Jim and Janet Spencer and family were here from Orem at the Claron Griffins and Clyde Spencers. Nell Barker met Hal and son in Panguitch and brought them here for the weekend. Hal brought part of a rear end to fix his car but lacked some part so Nell took them back to Salt Lake City. Twila Mclnelly went to Springvllle to await the arrival cf a new grandchild, a tiny girl born to Grene Kae and Mlko Searle. Bernell Baker of Salem visited relatives here and in Boulder, Clea came for him and brought Ezra Curtlss to visit Ora Schow, Bernell Is recovering from a heart attack but not able to work yet. Elmer and Lillian Smith spent the Easter weekend In Calif. Jane Woolsey had Roe and Clema Barney and family here from Page. Rex and Eva Allen were here from Rlverton. Robert Griffin and hlJ bride were guests at the Ernie Griffin home, Clarice accompanied them as far as Gunnison to meet relatives from Wayne County and go visit there. Jan Liston, Wilmirth Wooley and Laretta Shaw went to Salt Lake City. Wilmirth went to visit son Neal before he leaves for overseas duty. DeLane and Leah Griffin took their girls to Kanosh to stay with the Stanley Stowes while they went to Salt Lake for conference, Lorell Munson, son Stanford and Berlin Osborn also went to conference. The new-lyweds, Frankie Lou and Craig Evans, visited grandparents here, the D. H. Cowles and the Frank Imlays. Diane Alvey took the horses and trailer house and went to St. George, Darrell and Dale followed later. Robert and Louise Liston also went. Paul Hansen was visiting friends here. Mr. and Mrs Paul Moun-teer were here from Orderville at the Marvin Mounteer home, Peggy and Marva were here also. Effie Spencer had a visit from her sister Lorna. Newell and Dorothy Cowles and son were here from Richfield. Hal and Geneal Shurtz and family went to Hatch for the christening of their grandson who was given the name Gary Allen Huntington. Valleree and baby came here for a visit, so did Kim and Vickl Nelson of Cedar City. The Ott Roundys had Renon and Gene Reed and girls here from Monroe, Gene baptized Suzanne. Ivan and Nelda Willis met son Lowell and family of Magna at Bull Frog for a weekend of fishing. Jim, Erma and Kay Gates made the loop through Circle Cliffs, Moab and back home. Layne and Marlyn Griffin and baby of Provo were here at the Donald Griffins. Lloyd and Betty Alvey have son Steven home, He has been stationed in Oklahoma. Calvin and Martha Rae Schow and family of Kearns visited Nellie Bailey here. The High School organized a basketball tournament to help finance new bankboards. Teams came from Panguitch and Wayne County to play local boys. It was not just HJgh School boys, Oh, they were at one time. Some of them were coaches and saw how easily fouls were made, The Panguitch All-Star team won. The Sophomore Skid was held Friday night with music by the Blahs. A group of photographers and writers made a tour of this area, they were R. Bill Ewen from Dcseret News and Robert Wilde from the Travel Council of Utah Cal Black and Dick Smith flew them to our airport where Mohr Chrlstensen and the Mollln Brothers met them and took them to places of Interest they had viewed from the air. They showed Interest in Teepee Town, but thir comments were guarded. At Indian Gulch they took numerous pic-tucs of a herd of cattle. They toured Capitol Reef and Circle Cliffs and other places of interest. Iris Porter has new neighbors, the Lester Mendells, Jr., and Sr, father and son who bought the home from Harry Sutty. , Those people In the cities who have a steady job and draw a handsome salary get tired of the smog, the traffic and the problems that go with city life. They long for plain old wilderness to get away from strife. They don't want any highways, livestock, mines or such that have a look of progress or civilization's touch. We Know now how the Indians felt when they were shoved around deprived of their heritage and driven from their ground. About the only difference those pioneers used lead, these guys pass laws, connive and scheme, use fancy .words instead. |
