Show Over Bid Delays Letting Of Contract On Lake-Breaks Road Surfacing Project When the State Road Commission opened bids for completion of a paved road between Pangultch Lake and Cedar Breaks National Monument it wac found that low bid submitted by Thorn Construction Company of Springville, Utah, of $469,195, exceeded the official engineers' estimate of $363,650. Because of the difference between the low bid and the engineers estimate, the project will bo submitted to Highway Department staff members for their review and recommendations before the contract Is awarded. This project will pave 13.2 miles of gravel road between Pangultch Lake in Garfield County and Cedar Breaks National Monument in Iron County, This Forest Service road passes through areas of Impressive and spectacular scenery. When completed, this road will provide a shorter route to Pangultch Lake for residents of the Cedar City and St. George area. It will also shorten the distance between Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument and Bryce Canyon National Park. The paved road should Increase the number of visitors to the Pangultch Lake area. The Highway Department Is surfacing the road under an agreement with the Forest Service. Paving operations cannot begin until warm weather returns next spring at which time the contractor will be allowed 70 working days for completion. |
