Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY The weather gets steadily cooler, had a few snow flurries but nothing very impressive, ambitious folks raked up their leaves and the wind came a-long bringing more from the neighboring lots. Guile Deuel had quite a stay in the hospital but will be home any day now. Orilla Cowles had hip surgery last week at the Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City and is getting along as well as can be expected. Vernon and Marg-ene Stowe went with her and Daniel and stayed until she came out cf the worst part. Clarice Griffin accompanied them to visit family members in the area. Neta Haycock and daughter Donnetta came home for the weekend then went back where Neta has to take treatments for three more weeks. They shaved her head which did not help her morale. Phyllis Alvey is on crutches following a fracas with a horse, they are fearful her ankle is broken. These accident prone Al-veys are increasing, Ray L. has his arm cast off, Darrell was in Roy for the weekend and made the report. Millard Davis went to the Veteran's hospital and had his leg cast removed, it had rubbed sores on his ankle so he was not too happy. Gordon Haycock took wife Almeda to Provo to a dental specialist, she had some imbedded teeth which caused considerable misery. Vera Davis kept the kids, she had spent four days in Richfield with son Vernon and family. The I rin Griffins had son Al-vin, his wife Pat and three of their girls home from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri Hanes and Iola WooUey had son Merlo Kae who has been stationed at Fort Rocker, Alabama. They had a family dinner and all except four of Lor-in's and Bessie's family were present: two of Alvin's girls and two of Wilford's boys, David and Kent could not make It Iola. Christine and Eric took Merlo Kae to Cedar to board the plane leaving for Vietnam Alvln said It looks like he would have to go there again Kathleen Winters and two sons moved back o Boulder with her folks, the Cecil Al- . vs John and Nancy Droubay went to Spit Lake to visit her erandmot'ier who i-. HI Bill Lamb also had business In Salt Lake. Lorenzo and Ruth Griffin went to Provo for the christening of their new grandson born to Lewis and Jean. Hazel Haycock is home from the Page hospital where she had surgery. Blake Robinson was being very tidy burning up trash down on the south of the pool hall building, some sparks got into a broken place in the wall and got quite a start before they discovered It, they had to chop out a portion of the wall to get it under control. The Robinsons have Gurena's mother, Rhoda DeLang here from Koosharem, she Is pert as can be and carries het 84 years gracefully. Juana Staples Is enough better that her doctor told her to try working part time, she was getting so nervous doing nothing. Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman visited his parents, the Parley Colemans In Wayne County Sunday. The Arden Taylors and family also visited relatives in Teasdale. Marjle Spencer took a group of High school girls to Provo for the weekend. Ethan and Wanda Hansen have gone back to Kennewick. Washington to their Jobs and lonely house. On election day they joined Blllie and Minnie Davis for a trip to St. George where they went through a session at the temple, visited Amy Odegards, then motoied to Cedar City to visit Bonnie and Holbert Smith and son Robert. The Frank Imlays had a weekend visit from granddaughter Kathy who Is attending Henagers business college i n Salt Uke City James and Mil lie Mclnelly and son Vern had business in Richfield, so did we, and John and Yukon Norman The Normans have a new grandson born to daughter La-na Livingston, he Is number three son. Mr. and Mrs Walter Kennedy of Marysvale spent the weekend here with Thell and Roxie Barney John and Nancy Droubay served steak dinner to BilUe and Minnie Davis, Lorell and Nelda Munson at the Dioubay Ranch in Salt Gulch Some Haws relatives here called Bill In Oregon and found he Is out of the hospital but his doctor tells him he needs surgery Usher and Eva Spencer went to Provo Erma Gates and Zel-nia Wilson had business In (continued on back page) ESCALANTE ontlnueu. John and Lola Zenz had a visit from Bob and Barbara Ingram from Wyoming; Ralph and Betty Nickles of Wisdom, Montana, and her parents Joe and Eunice Wilde of Phoenix, Arizona, Harold and Elsie Kern of Bend. Oregon. Ivan Willis had business in Kanab so Nelda accompanied him. Smith Alvey and Dale Lyman were home for the weekend. Got reminded that Arnold Al-vey won a sleeping bag and John Norman a Coleman lantern. The Clyde Spencers had daughter Marie Loslee and ton here from Richfield for the weekend. The Ott Roundys had Vernon Dean and Peg, Re-non Reed and girls here from Monroe. Coach Evan Excell took the ball boys to Panguitch for a meeting. Robert Wells took the Juniors and Seniors to Provo for meetings, Marvin and Louise Mounteer went also. Billie and Minnie Davis entertained the Valley Finance officials at dinner, Fon and Reed Thompson of Cedar City, the Don Swapps of Kanab, the Blake Robinsons, and Stanley Llston was a special guest. The High school and American Legion put on a Veterans day program with Dale Marsh as guest speaker, Thurman Spencer, Hyrum Coleman and Earl Woolsey did the flag ceremony. On Tuesday the Elementary school put on a program for the parents. Melvin and Florence Alvey took daughter Helen to Panguitch for a dental date. John and Lola Zenz were Invited to the wedding ceremony of their grandson Steven Zenz who exchanged vows with Lorie Diane Warner at the First Baptist Church In Ardmore Park. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. El wood Warner, and Steven Is a Senior at the University of Nevada. The grandpar- ents sent congratulations but did not feel equal to the trip. The Arthur Mclnellys had Mary and Sherrill Davis and family here from Cedar City. We missed Mary Lyman's company, John and Orabell Wclg-le of Salt Lake City, they got rid of all the extra chickens in the neighborhood. Jim Yardley of Panguitch was here on insurance business. Ron and Linda Mecham went to Cedar City. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward speakers were High council men Ellis LeFevre, Clele Fletcher, and Elmo Rush n ell. Robert Wilson played a piano solo. Lorell Munson was a North ward speaker, Wallace Roundy talked then sang and played hi own piano accompaniment, the Samoan boy also sang (can't spell his name) . Election Day is over, the votes are tabulated, it turned out much the same as the experts calculated. Humphery and Wallace can now relax and sleep, poor Dick must figure out a way his promises to keep. |
