Show National Recognition For Escalante In Clean-Up Escalante, Utah, has earned a Certification of Honorable Mention for Its successful clean up, civic improvement, and bcautification activities. This citation was earned In competition with other com munities of less than 25,000 population In the 1967 National Clean Up Contest. A member of the city's delegation will receive the framed Certificate in person at an A-wards Ceremony which is the highlight of the National Cleanest Town Conference in Washington, DC, on Feb. 20. This presentation will be witnessed by civic improvement and bcautification leaders from all over the country. In addition, the Contest Judges have chosen the city's scrapbook entry to be placed on display during the entire length of the February 18-20 Conference at the Statler Hilton Hotel This will enable delegates from other communities to see first hand the public record of what the city has ociplished. The Certificate of Honorable Mention was earned because of the outstanding participation of 467 adults and 100 young people in many widespread civic improvement activities, including, the removal of 350 extra loads of trash, a clean up of vacant lots, and the clearing away of old trees, barns, sheds, fences, and houses. A panel of nine judges was responsible for naming the winning cities in three population classifications - under 25.00; between 25,000 and 250,000; and over 250,000. On Monday morning, Feb. 19, the 30 trophy-winning cities will outline their successful programs. At a luncheon there will be a discussion for the need for corporate participation in community affairs. I .ed by civic improvement experts, delegates will participate in discussions and reach conclusions at three workshops Monday afternoon. In the evening is a reception and buffet, where delegates can meet the Contest Judges and other distinguished guests The Awards Ceremony starts at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Presidential Ballroom of the Statler Hilton, and is fol lowed by an awards luncheon which closes the Conference. Both these events will receive national publicity through on-the-spot coverage by newspapers, wire services, and TV. |
