Show Motor Boat Speed Rules Set For Lake After efforts for more than a year by local interests to have the boat speed restrictions on Panguitch and Navajo Lakes rescinded, the Board of Parks and Recreation officially removed the restriction at their quarterly meeting on January 19, according to Tedd Tuttle, Boating Supervisor. Local residents petitioned Utah's Boating Advisory Council to recommend removal of the speed limit in November of 1968. The Council asked that the matter be presented in the news media in southern Utah encouraging everyone who had an opinion to express it in writing to the Division. Also, Dvision personnel wore active in asking opinions of in terested parties. The Council considered all of the expressions received and in Oct. 17, 1967, recommended to the Board that in the best interest of all concerned the restrictions should be dropped. At the Board meeting on Oct. 19, 1967, it was decided to postpone action for further consideration which resulted in the action taken at the January meeting. Mr. Tuttle stated that the general speed and proximity regulations which require the boats do not exceed a slow, wakeless speed when within 150 feet of other boats or fishermen or their gear will be strictly enforced in order to protect the predominant uses of these waters. |
