Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY Seems like it Is colder than it was in January, maybe it ia because we expect warm weather and do not dress for those chilling winds. There are lots of colds, if you do not have a cough or a case of sniffles you are not In style. The cattlemen are busy gathering the stock from the winter range and putting them on the mountain. There ia always someone sick; Nell Barker is in the Panguitch hospital. Hode Alvey finally got his arm cast off but that bone Is mighty weak for a man trying to shovel ditch. They had Boyd and Opal home for the weekend getting their trailer house ready to move north. There have been two new couples join the ranks of grandparents ; Les and Martha Johns, Harvey and Evadean Liston. Kris and Jerry Nebea-ker had a boy and El Vonn and Utahna Poulsen a girl, all survived the ordeal. The Stake MIA entertainment was a big success, the actors and actresses did their parts well and the audience was large and appreciative. The dance by the Boulder ladles attracted attention, they were called everything from goslings to big turkeys, they were supposed to be swans. The Melvin Alveys had a visit from Florence's sister Grace Brown of Oakland, Calif., her son Richard and wife of Sacramento, Calif. Several people had business in Cedar City; Evadean and Lola liston, Eddie and Veda Mitchell, Alfred and Connie Jepsen and Nellie Bailey. Delia Christiansen and daughter Alice Ann and sons were here from Las Vegas. Don Heap held an open house at the Seminary building. Usher and Eva Spencer went to Provo. Ruth Griffin accompanied them. Donnetta Haycock waa home for the weekend and took her grandmother, Clarice Griffin back to have eye surgery. Clarice said we missed Champ and Afton Church being here for the party, that was Just an oversight as they are not on that "never mention my name again" list. The short article in last week's paper drew considerable attention including that of our law men who evidently took it as a personal assault which was not meant, it was more on the principle lnvolv ed. They said there waa no truth to it, just an Idle rumor, It may have been a rumor but was certainly not idle as It got around but if they say it Is not true that's the way It is . . aon y about that. Several car loads of citizens went to Orderville for the Gar-kane meeting and were quite lucky, out of ten door prizes given away they brought home eight. A telephone meeting waa held here with a better than usual attendance. Pres. Leland Haws took charge. Jim Hawa and LeGrande Heaton were here from Orderville, and John Vernleu from Richfield Marilyn Griffin helped Leland represent Boulder They are expecting a fellow in to get the buc out of our telephone system. Ott and Hilda Roundy had their family home: Gene and Renon Reed, Vernon Desn and Peg and son from Monroe and Vernon's girls from Las Veg-aa. Blake and Gurena Rubin an had all of their family home for Easter vacation, nben they found out Beth could come from California they all made the effort. Missed last week Dale Marsh going to commissioners meeting, Jim Rowe accompanied him, then Paul Steed Joined them for the trip to Salt Lake City for an auditor's meeting. Jim went to his doctor. The S. J. Alveys got word that grandson Lynn Hansen had been made District Leader in the mission In Australia. Ray L. Alvey of Roy has finished out the Cutter race sport for the season, he won nine races out of ten. The Wasatch Slopes Club won the championship over 30 clubs and Douglas Haws was elected president over the Cutter Race Association. The Frank Imlays had a visit from Harry and Neca Baugh of Ogden, and Frank's nephew Bud Imlay and two sons Bud and Garland and their friend Dennis Mills. Bud and the boys came to look out a suitable place to bring a group of Boy Scouts on a camping trip. They had the Barker reservoir in mind but they could not get up there yet. Ken Sleight brought a group of twenty to see the wilderness ; Reeves Baker, Arthur Lyman and Mac LeFevre went to help herd them. Maitland, Nelda and Allie Spencer went to Panguitch for medical checkups from Dr. Duggins. George and LaVern Hamilton and daughter Loret-ta were here from Calif, to finish the details on selling the property belonging to son Wesley who Is in the Service in Korea. He married a pretty little Korean girl. LaVern had been to Salt Lake City to help daughter Ardena Secise who was In a car wreck, killing her unborn baby and banging herself up considerably. Martha Rae Schow was with her and was also bruised up, they were lucky not to be killed. The Hamiltons look so much younger than when they lived here, George and LaVern do but not Loretta, she has sort of blossomed out. LaVern said she is blind In one eye and can scarcely see out of the other but is still doing hand work, silk quilts now. Roger is living in Salt Lake City and is sort of dabbling In matrimony. George has bought some acreage in Leeds, Utah and they plan on coming there to retire, of course that is sometime in the future. Nell and John Mecham of Tropic visited Beumont and Verda Griffin and other friends. Went to Richfield with Dot and Anthony Coombs, noticed Leo and Bernice Wilson flitting around from store to store, it was cool enough one did not loiter on the streets. When Thora and LaVar Mun-son were here for the party they aald they liked St. George fine in the winter but they did not know Just how hot the summer would be. The Munsons looked good too. Some of the women here suggested that LaVar take the place of the late Almle Heaps In kissing all the ladlea. In thia reporting business we keep an ear to the ground for any item of interest that may be floating 'round. We RseM no harm to anyone, Heaven only knows but must ad mit occasionally we step on someone's toes.
