Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY It froze hard enough that there is no more apple picking this year except for the birds, and ice freezes on the water troughs. There are the familiar smells and sounds of autumn; dead leaves burning, weaner calves bawling and that Fall wind howling. Jim Reynolds got word that his mother Maud who had gone to Arizona to visit sons Tom and Tony, suffered a massive heart attack and was hospitalized. They got a heart specialist who gave her shock treatments which brought her right out of it, she Is back to Tom's but has to take it easy. Jim took his wife Effie to Pan-gultch to see her father, Joseph Miller who is not too well. The last report from the Zenzes Arlene was still hospitalized In traction and Bill was working two hours a day. Their daughter had come home to look after things so Lola was in California visiting her brothers and sisters. Wilford Griffin is up north being observed and tested; Koleen came home bringing bottles for Dr. Kazan to get blood samples of all the family to see if all the members had some of the same thing Wilford has. Katheryn Coleman gave her mother, Bessie Griffin a hair do and took her to Cedar City to catch a bus to California to visit two cousins who are 85 and 86 years young. Katheryn and Iola Woolsey are helping Lorin if he needs it. he is good at waiting on himself. Tbelma Cottam and Areola Gates were called to St. George to their parents, the Andrew Spencers, Andrew was in the hospital. They got him out and Areola came home to see to her family. Tbelma drove her dad's car to Salem where they met Vernon and Rula who had been north to Rula's un-cle's funeral Tbelma and Rula came home and Vernon took his parents to Salt Lake City where Andrew will go through a clinic and we all hope It helps him. Ivan and Nelda Willis spent some time north with family members. Whitey and Maralda Porter went on a trip but failed to report in. Jan Goulding of Henrteville visited here with friend Stan Llston. The Ott Roundys had Vernon Dean and Peg and son, Gene and Re-nun Reed and girls here from Monroe. James Mcluelly and Marvin Mounteer went to Boulder Sunday too late to talk In church so do not know what their business was but it was probably legitimate. We were there too but our kids are our excuse. Larry Chynoweth had business In Price so Billie went along for the ride and a change of scenery. Blake Robinson, Darrell Alvey and Grant Uston went to St. George for horse races. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the North ward speakers were Dan and Mattie Hakes and their B children, they let the congregation furnish the music The South ward listened to Alton Shakespear and Marion Clark, they were a bit late for last week. Morris and Nets Shirts are borne from their Jobs at Bryce Canyon just relaxing for a change. Note was through Oct. 13th but he stayed to let Herman Pollock go on vacation so she stayed to give him moral support. LaVern and Mary Griffin and son Eldon went to Richfield to have their car worked on and visit Eldon's wife Am ber. Jolynn was home for the weekend and got in a terrible snow storm going back to Cedar City. Valeree Shurtz and Grena Mclnelly were with her. Lola Rae Llston stayed over here an extra day to help put on a party for her sister Utah-na Poulsen who Is staying home while ElVonn is away for special schooling. Jaleen Pollock has Mondays off so Lola will go back to Cedar with her. Dawn and Bill Griffin were made grandparents by the birth of a baby girl to NlcU and Evan Excell, of course Dawn had to go right up and make sure that the tiny one got a proper start in life. William Mitchell has gone to Delta to visit a brother, he had treatments in a Salt Lake hospital and got by without surgery. Earl and Nethella Woolsey went north where Earl would see his doctor then they would visit family members until af-t e r Thanksgiving. Wallace Roundy went with them to visit his boys in the area. Smith Alvey is home between Jobs. Sharon Dale and Shirley Marsh went to Cedar City. Don Heap and family visited relatives in Hatch. DUP meeting was held last week with a good attendance and a lesson on the organization of the YWMIA which was called the retrenchment. Their resolutions stressed modesty and simplicity In dress, we wondered what some of the old fellers would do If they suddenly woke up and got a look at the modern styles, they would probably drop dead, then again they may kinds like It. The Garfield Stake Relief Society Bazaar postponed from last Saturday will be held this coming Saturday, Nov. 22, at the South ward church. The concert starts at 2 p.m., followed by the Bazaar which is being put on by all of the wards In the stake Everyone Is invited. The High School has a whole week of activities planned for homecoming, u shin dig where the Queen and her attendants will be picked; the faculty playa the Uth and 12th grade girls in basket ball (short quarters), there's a Red and White Day, a powder puff day and career day whin the Seniors go to Panguitch for interviews. They almost had a cleanup day but It was too cold, and earlier it was too hot. Gwen and Ra-da Lyman went back to Salt La w City to see son Blaine off foi the train trip to Chicago when he had a six hour lav over and spent it with his sister Deanna Greer and husband Jim, then he boarded the plane for the Sou- (continued uuMe) ESCALANTE (continued trom front page ) thern States where he will ex pound the Gospel to all who will lend an ear. Talked with Helen Shurtz about Susan still in Japan. She really likes the country, the people and the work she is doing. Thurman and Marjie Spencer celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary last week. Geraldine Liston had a birthday anniversary, so did Elda Haws. Dee cooked a mutton supper sheepherder style all by himself. Kept trying to call Martha or Lovell Twitchell and found they had flew the coop, gone to St. George to do temple work for the winter months. Starns and Fon Mecham, Er-vln and Coleen Burrows, Phil and Sharon Bayles went to Panguitch for a party in honor of retiring Forest employees. Starns was one of the honored guests and was presented a pocket watch. Dr. Kazan still flys in twice a week and often-er if nceeded. If all those protest marchers had some tasks to perform, like chopping wood, pitching hay or cleaning out the barn, all that surplus energy would have a safe outlet, there wouldn't be the violence nor looting that we get. |
