Show Heavy Rains, Warm Weather Bring On Local Flood Threat Warm weather and heavy rain storms brought on a spring freshet to local waters especially along the Sevier River and Panguitch Creek. The river ice went out in the upper reaches and floated down on tho crest of a roaring flood. It took out a small bridge about three miles south of Panguitch where a dirt road crosses to the Earl Allen property and on Into the hills at Castro Canyon. . Tho road to the city dump was cut Sunday evening as tho flood strewed big blocks of ice across it. The bridge at the foot of Holler M1U hill was seriously threatened, but the huge blocks of mud coated ico formed a dam on the upstream side, as shown In this picture, sending the water over the road further cast, saving tho bridge Itself. Both canals taking water from Panguitch Creek wore opened to protect the north end of Panguitch from flood, as a result water from the south canal broke out of tho canal flooding Highway 89 and around the Frank Cline home. |
