Show ESCALANTE CHIT CHAT By Fay Alvey Got a real nice little sho- wer which cooled the air off and made most everyone bet v ter natured. Some had their hay up and were ready for It and some would never be ready. I Sox Spencer Is doing real- : ly more than his share to fur nish patients for the Pan-gu.tch hospital: his wife Ef-, lie Kay had her appendix re moved there and she had hardly gotten on her feet when Effie went in for an operation which was three in one, Effie Kay made it home in time to celebrate at Boulder and Effie was pretty sick but holding her own. Mae Vonn Taylor spent several days in the hospital but is home, and her mother Melba Gates came from Page to care for her and the kids, Ga-den came for the weekend. Betty Alvoy took her mother Ella Roundy to Panguitch for a checkup, Marjorie Spencer went over for her after surgery checkup and RaNee Ow-ens accompanied her. Some items missed before was the visit of Norma Spencer and her daughter Betty Jean Dowdell; Verda andBeu-mont Griffin attended the Deuel reunion at Fish Lake; Zelma Wilson and son Dale went to Provo to attend the Testimonial of her sister's son Howard E. Collings who is leaving for an LDS mission to the Northern Far East with headquarters in Japan. Speaking of Japan, a young lady who has Just returned from a mission there is here visiting her .brother Gordon Stevens. Hilo and Lettie Boyce have their only son Acel and his family here visiting. We have had a little short age of culinary water but not as short as it got last winter; folks on high ground could not get a drink in the late P.M., some of them got rather nasty with Daniel .Cowles, figured if he sent the bills out he should be able to make more water. Daniel and Orll-la have their daughter Emma Lou Mclnelly and family home foravislt. The Mclnellys f rom here all went to Richfield for a family reunion. Thelma Marsh made a trip to Cedar City and on the way home picked her daughter Kathleen up at Cedar Breaks and brought her home for the weekend. The Roland Porters have their granddaughter the former Deloa Thompson and her new baby here for a visit, their son Bob came from Arizona and he and Vernon Dean Roundy got a Job near Boulder so are camping over there. The, Morias Hall home was filled' to capacity; the Walter Steffensens and family from Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Jerry McCurdys of Salt Lake, and the Rulon Jolleys also of Salt Lake. Bish and Mildred Schow had sons Calvin and Warren, Calvin had his family, and .Warren daughter Jean and her friend Judy, and the Gall Alveys. Of course they had to share Calvin and family with Nellie Bailey. The Cal-vlns had their new daughter r ; blessed Sunday In the North K ward, Wcrren doing thehon- i ors, and in the South ward Hose Mary Palmer had her daughter blessed by tho Grandpa, Randal Lyman. The North ward finished organizing with Layton Griffin as second counselor and Lorin Cottam stayed on as ward clerk. Since Vernon Spencer became Bishop he has been so befuddled .that he has to ask Cook Liston what mark to put on his calves. Tho LaFayette Alveys were here vlsituig relatives. Laura Sheldon, Bell. Duncan and their families are here living in the old Haycock family home, they had dinner at the Stanley Haycock home along with Gam and Shirley Haycock of Tropic. Mrs. Homer Nelson, the former Shirlene Woolsey and son Randy of Green River were visitors at the Earl Woolsey home. Earl and Ne-thella have Just recently returned from Logan where they attended a conference of the State commission on aging, Nethella was appointed from the House of Representatives by the Governor to be a member of this commission and has made two trips North foi meetings. Ruth Uriffm, rcaiiy eujuy-td her snort stay at summer school and brought her twin granddaughters home to visit while their mother Lois Reeve' cLd some house changing, Lewis and his family are still here visiting. Hal and Myrna Barker and children are here for the long weekend. Lena Rollins had her daughter Margaret and her family of Keams here for fishing and visiting. WUliam Mitchell went to Salt Lako City for a visit with his daughter Venid Bailey. Janeal Shurtz went to Provo to meet Hal for a big banquet, she tried all along the way to get someone to go with her but everyone had ex-cuses so she went by herself and she and Hal attended the banquet and program held in the Joseph Smith building and heard a lecture by State Sup erlntendent Ball. They went on to Salt Lake City to visit relatives and shop then back home. Hal is finished with Summer school for awhile as he has his Administrators certificate now. Larry Coombs was In town getting lined up for his Job as Ag Teacher. Arnold and Deon Alvey and girls came from Orem to see about renting their home here; they live neighbors to Jim and Janet Spencer in an Orem trailer court. (continued Inside) ESCALANTE Lorin and Meletta Cottam went to visit their children in Springville and Provo; they turned the keys and the High School custodian job over to Don Coleman. Vernon and Margean Stowe and their 3 boys went to Los Angeles as Vernon was called into the hospital there for treatment on his eye; while there they, visited her sister Twila and family, his sister Gladys and family, also spent some time at Disneyland. Annie Alvey has her daughter Edna Peterson here for a visit. Beryl Shurtz Is rather discouraged with his set up here since he and Hctha took that trip traveling thirty six hundred miles and seeing real farms and so much beautiful country.
