Show ESCALANTE CHIT CHAT By FAY ALVEY Had quite a variety of weather, everything but moisture; the wind blowed so hard it rattled everything that was loose and loosened more. Went to do chores one morning after an especially wild night and noticed the old barn on the Sixty Mclnelly premises, now belonging to Lincoln Lyman, flattened right out, of course I supposed It was the wind but. the neighbors said it was Doylo Moosman. Jim Haycock came out of his first operation fine and now is waiting in anticipation of his second one, Alice is up there with him. Aunt Susan Heaps is back in the Panguitch hospital, she was in Wayne County with daughter Grace Baker and got the nose bleed, they took her to the doctor and got It stopped then took her home when it start ed in again so they brought her to the hospital and left her. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Wilcox both got over the flu pretty well and out and around, but Mrs. Wilcox wasn't feeling 60 well agtfn. Mrs. Vernon Spencer (R'lla) got word that her father of Joseph was to undergo surgery so she went to be with him; Mrs. Uura Baker is teaching In her place. Sometimes the sins of omission an worse than those of commission; left out the North ward's first speaker in their Sacrament meeting a week ago, it was Mrs. Eva Spencer; wo got our informa- tlon from ward clerk Lorln' Cott&m but he was at a disadvantage as we contacted him at work, so of course he had his wind on what he was doing and not on Sunday Services, so our humble apologies to Mrs. Spencer. Norma Spencer's father, Mr. Buckley of Circlevllle has gone back home and Norma says she has never been so alone in all her life, but she would not go to stay with Anyone else as she feels better in her own home. Mrs. Delano Griffin went to St. George for the weekend whero she was to meet her husband and do Temple work, John Mclnelly keeps having heart attacks but he is bravely trying to get moved Into the old Perry Shurtz home. Mr. and Mrs. Vic Cottam, accompanied by Mrs. Verda Griffin made a business trip to Cedar City last week. Most of the college students from the CSU came noma for the weekend, all except Blaln Willis, Barbra Thompson came with them to visit her girl friend Kathlene Marsh. The local ball team went to Order-ville and Tropic last week to piay ball and lost both games; quite a number of students and towns people accompanied ''em. Wanles Alvey was at home last week nursing an injured leg caused from a tree falling on it; the offender was not one of our local trees but was located in the Panguitch area where Wanless and For- rest have been working In the timber. Hal Shurtz and Neta Shirts attended the Educational meet held In Salt Lake City January 22; Dr. James Bryant Conant was the guest speaker, his subject was methods of Improving High Schools. These folks also had a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Aidene Bench who sent greetings to folks back here. While Hal and Neta were soaking up this lecture NeU's daughter, Carol Joy was attending a banquet at the University of Utah, Union Bldg. with Rep. J. Arthur Cooper; now that young man is one smooth politician, even though election is over he Is still kissfng the babies and smiling at the Mamas just in case he decides to run for a second term. Neta also called at Spanish Fork, to have Dr. Lars Peterson check her teeth; Lars always wants to know the news from this part of the world, and of course Neta would be glad to tell him but it is rather difficult to talk with a mouthful of Dental tools and a fist, so she Is sending him a subscription to the County News with her compliments. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Wool-sey and family are here from Wyoming; he works on an oil (continued on back page) rig and It Is being moved; their daughter Judy and her husband. Mr. and Mrs, Wallace Ludgato aro with them, they were married Nov. 3, 1958 at Forsyth, Montana. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Llston mado a business trip to Pangultch last week. Somo more folks having the flu are Mohr Chris tensen, James Alvcy, Lillie Spencer, Reva Bailey and Ma-riah Adair; Mariah had a happy surpiiso tho other day when her daughter Doris and family (Mr. and Mrs. LeoWal-tin and daughter) came for a visit; they havo been in Casa Blanca for eighteen months, he is an accountant for Morrison and Knudscn and goes wherever they send him; they are driving a little foreign car which they purchased overseas. The local Riding club held t meeting and banquet last Saturday night; Boulder members attending were the Bums Ormons, the Otto Haws', the Mack LeFevrcs and Cecil Alvey; some Invited guests from Tropic were Mr. and Mrs.Urt Ott and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Mangum, there were 39 In attendance. They have their own private meeting place now; the room where Mike and Charley used to run a Barber Shop, it connects up with Blake Robinson's Pool Hall. Sheriff George Middleton was here last wxck working In connection with Peputy Walter Lcibenguth and town Marshall Theo Barker to try and find tho culprit who slit the car tires of High School Principal, Walter Svedenc; there was also a FBI man here from Cedar City taking finger prints and collecting other evidence. A meeting was held last week In the High School Bldg. for parents and teachers to discuss 'problems, it was well attended and very Interesting, Talmage Taylor, Assistant Supt was in attendance. There was a FasnlonShow at the High School Gym sponsored by C. R. Griffin's store and sent out by the Avondalo Fabric Company; the public was Invited and the girls modeling the Spring fashions were: Pauline Griffin, Kath-lene Alvey, Judy'Mclnelly, La Vco Alvey, Sherrill Hulce, Ruth Robinson, Marva Moun-teer, LeAnn Spencer, Kath-lene Marsh, Marie Leiben-guth, Yulon Porter, Sandra Branch, and Joyce Lyman. Four of tho men working in Nevada were home for the weekend, Vernon and Dehne Griffin, Boyd Owens and Parley Pratt Word was received here by relatives thai Mary Griffin, LaVern's wife, was qulto sick, they are living In Overon, Nevada. Mr. and Mrs Al Foster and family of Tropic were visitors at the BUlle Davis home last week, then Monday Minnie and son-in-law Holbcrt Smith called for Leda Mae in Tropic and took her to Panguitch to the doctor. The Infant son of the Jean Griffins (tho Barbers) Is better and home. Mr. and Mrs. J. Clyde Spencer and daughter Bonnie Jean went to Panguitch to visit their daughter and family, tho Talmage Taylors, then on to Richfield to see another daughter and family, the Douglas Loslees; they also had dental work done while In Richfield. Some of the young married men who are ball players are training the elementary school boys to play basket ball. Speakers in Sacrament meeting Sunday were North ward: Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Gates, then there wero two songs by the Sunday School children; In the South ward: Maltland Spencer, Leo Wilson and Alburn Griffin gave talks, and Gloria Bailey and Linda Lou Alvcy sang a song accompanied by Linda's mother Betty.
