Show Report On Cemetery Funds The community is interested in the cemetery project, and is entitled to a report on the project. The first plan was to secure water from the irrigation system, but this was given up because there are times of the year when water from this source would not b.e available, and the past two years has proven the inadequate supply from that source. The next proposal was that when the bond issue was made for the improvement of the city water system, the water would be piped to the cemetery, and the cemetery district would make an annual payment to the city to repay this obligation. By the time the water system improvement was comply the costs had increased to the txtent that there was r money left for the cxten-tion of th line to the cemetery. n estimate was made on ust of the extention with tK thought in mind that perhaps the district could bond or the money for this exten-' on of the system. The estimate was about $12,000. The advise received from the inquiries relative to bonding was that the expense of obtaining the bond issue would be such that it would be pro- ,' hibitive. Their suggestion was that the money be borrowed, but tho state law limits borrowing to the annual tax receipts, There is in the cemetery fund deposited in the bank, $6872.26. This represents the collections from taxation and contributions from clubs and individuals, in addition there is on hand sufficient pipe, sprinkler heads and connections for the sprinkling system, which cost around S5000 and is paid for. The state law has been amended to permit a 2 m'll l-w for cemetery purposes. It should not take toa long with a 2 mill levy to raise sufficient funds to complete the project. An attempt has been made to straighten the boundaries of the cemetery to permit construction of adequate protection for the cemetery and at present thU is held up on a legal question, when this question Is determined work can go ahead on the fence construction. |
