Show Escalante Chit Chat The weather has moderated to such an extent that some of the farmers are doing their Fall ploughing. Mable Pratt is home but may have to go back to the hospital any day; Andrew Spencer was taken to the hospital very sick; Maur-lnc Schow, daughter of the Bernard Schows, Is going into her sixth month of unconsciousness, and is surely in bad shape, but her folks still have hopes of her recovery. Mrs. Sopha Schurtz received a thrill of a lifetime when she got a letter from her son Clarence whom she hadn't heard from for over a year; he started his letter "Dear Mom and Dad", and his Dad has been dead and buried six months, he wrote from California. George Hamilton made a business trip to Richfield; the business was to take a load of pigs down, tnd the pleas- ure was to go to Doctor Anderson and get his back twisted back in place, the pleasure came when the Doc quit twisting. The Guy Pollocks, now residents of Panguitch have been back here visiting. The S. J. Alveys received word that the Ethan. Hansens have moved from Richland, Washington, to a new home they' have bought in Kennel-Wick at 408 Nodh Vollana, this is their daughter Wanda. The Seniors here are sponsoring an Alumni program and dance December 20; the program is at 7:30 In the North Ward church and the dance afterwards in the gym, the school will be open all day to any former students who want ' to visit. Found out why the Johni Zenzs went to Calif., lt,was to order a rock machine, then they had to make a trip to Cedar City to receive it. Joanna Barker has gone to Salt Lake City to spend the winter. Charley Gates from up there has been here visiting friends and relatives; Alburn I Bobby; Griffin took him back home. Speakers 1 n Sacrament meeting Sunday were. North Ward, J. Berlin Osborn and Vernon Spencer, and Soutn Ward, Layton Griffin ana Pratt Gates. Grant (Cook) Liston Is back after spending Thanksgiving with his wile and family in Las Vegas, she is teaching school down there, the Stanley Llstons also spent that holiday in Vegas and they liked it so well they plan on going back for the winter. The Leo Munspns came here for Thanksgiving, sodia Clyde Spencer's family. Mr. and Mrs. Lane Liston are the proud parents of a boy born-Dec. 7; Faun Mccham, grandmother, accompanied them to meet the stork. Lovell Twlt-chell and Lorell Munson mado a trip to Price to get come mine equipment but the man they wanted to see w.'o in Dtu-ver so it was a dry the are trying to take some of the Backache out of the mining business. Alvcy has gone to visit her children until she t can recover from the shock of t the sudden death of her hus- band George; her youngest daughter, Clema stayed sev eral days and helped her to fix things so she could leave, we will miss these folks, they are good friends and neigh- bors. A PTA meeting was held Thursday, Dec. 5th, at the El- 5 ementary school with Presid ent Janeal "Shurtz presiding and conducting; Mrs. Mary Simpkins, County nurse was J .the guest speaker and ex- plained the Clinic, the need for them and what the State would do toward financing them. Melba Gates was put in chairman with representatives from the different organiza ! tions to help raise funds to ! sponsor these visits from tht J doctor and nurse. A film was shown entitled "Skippy and 1 the Three It's", it brought out the modern methods of teach- ing and was very interesting. ; The Sophomores finally got I around to holding their anil uai Skid Friday, Dec. 6th in J the high school gym; Val's r orchestra played minus Val, he called that day to say he couldn't make it, but they did J very well without him. The gym was decorated with Sil- ver Bells tied with red ribbon f on evergreen trees, it was quite attractive and original; Billie Davis put on the Floor Show. His Deciples Peter and James have gone back to Wisconsin for the holidays, as did also a Geologist they' had out here from that State 'to anal-ize their holdings here; they had no report to make yet. Wallace- Woolsey and family went to California to visit his parents, the Arden Woolseys. I was also reminded that I did not report the Riding Club dance held Nov. 30th and they came out ahead fin- 1 ancially. Mr. and Mrs. E. Dee Haws received word that their son Donald who is in Alaska in the Service has signea ip for another three years. E. Dee Haws, Lorell Mun-son, Dale Marsh, Reeves Baker, Nelda Willis and myself went to Monroe Sunday to another of those Regional Welfare Meetings, Brother Dredge a work Director leader, was the visiting authority. On the" way back we stopped in Panguitch to the hospital to see Andrew Spencer and found him walking around and some better, he still didn't know if they were sending him to Salt Lake for surgery. The hospital was full of folks we knew; Truman Lyman was there visiting his wife who is a patient; Bernell Baker had just come in with a broken nose; Lid Pollock is a, patient there; I almost got to see Ger-aldine Liston and her baby; Nelda peeked in to say Hello to her sister Gretha and Ger-aldine, and it was my next turn but a nurse came down the hall giving us dirty looks so we left. Orlas Riggs was also there and did not look like his old self, but said, he was Improving. The Doyle Cot-tarns and Mrs. Spencer and daughter Janeal were alter noon visitors at the hospital. |
