Show Thanksgiving I Proclamation Thursday, November 29th, is Thanksgiving day. Following is the proclamation issued by Governor Gov-ernor Simon Bamberger: "Annually it has been the custom cus-tom of the people of Utah to follow fol-low the beautiful precedent cs-tablishcd cs-tablishcd by the Pilgrim fathers to set aside a day in the autumn of each year to return thanks to God for the bountiful fruits of the harvest. "In the midst of war, when depressing de-pressing news of conflict and suf-tcring suf-tcring assails, we may still find much in the State of Utah for which to return thanks to a bene-ficicnt bene-ficicnt aud divine providence. "Let us assemble in pur places of worship and thank God, as did the Pilgrim fathers, for the harvest. harv-est. Never before have the fields .'ind tiic orchards yielded in such abundance their grains and thejr fruits to the toil of the husbandman. husband-man. Let us be thankful for the privilege of thus contributing to our beloved country and to the nations na-tions allied with ours the food stuffs that will supply our armies in the field and in camp and ward off famine among the civilian population of the civilized world. "Let us return thanks for the opportunities this terrible struggle strug-gle brings to the United States to abolish tyranny, absolution and the law of might, and to aid iil-the establishment of democracy in.evcrcivilicd nation-. - "LptiIts!PUk Go(L for the safety from serious dlsastck- of the brave men in the army and navy of the United States, and let us pray that this comparative safety may continue. "While giving thanks to God for the manifold blessings we have received, let us also resolve that wc will do our full duty toward to-ward our country in this hour of need, and subordinate all private interests in the interest of the government gov-ernment in this emergency. "In view of these considerations considera-tions and in conformity with proclamation proc-lamation of the Honorable Wood-row Wood-row Wilson, president of the United States, "I, Simon Bamberger, governor of the State of Utah, do hereby proclaim aud set aside Thursday, November 29, 1917, as Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing day, and, in the observance of this holiday, I call upon all Godfearing, God-fearing, patriotic liberty-loving citizens to forego business and to gather in their respective places of worship to thank God for His bounteous blessings and to pray for the safety of the republic. |
