Show I. Getting at the Sugar Supply (From Box Elder News.) For the purpose of getting in r 'cloBer.aotVchrvith the consumer U and impressing upon him the nec- ! essity for careful conservation of the sugar of the country, the Government Gov-ernment Department of Food Conservation has framed a number num-ber of questions to the public generally and through the Food Demonstrator for Box Elder county, Miss Annie Christenscn, has asked that these questions be given, publicity. The people are to take them seriously and answer ans-wer them by carrying out the suggestions sug-gestions and request which each one makes. The following are' the points which the department wishes to emphasize : (a) How much sugar is served on your table in a week? (b) What is the average amount winch each person uses in tea and coffee, cocoa or chocolate? (c) Does your family use sugar, on cereals? (d) Do you add sugar to the baby's cereal and cup of milk? H (e) What kind of dessert do - you serve most frequently? (f) Will each member of the family who uses more than six H tablespoonsful of sugar a day H including the amount used in H " cakes, puddings, preserved fruits, 1 etc., agree' to reduce the amount 1 to four tablespoonsful? H (g) Will you for one month, H ' substitute dishes which contain H little sugar in place of cakes, puddings, etc? Fpr instance, use H molasses aud syrups in swectcn-H swectcn-H ing; use salads freely, and use H the canned fruits which you put H up last summer in place of .such H dishes as cakes and puddings. H (h) Will you agree to use fresh H fruits, raisins, dates, figs, nuts, H popcorn and similar things for H your holiday gatherings and cut H down on candies and dishes which H call Jor sugar? H (i) If there are five persons in H your family will you agree to limit H the spgar used in all cooking and H served on your table in any form, H including candy, to one pound (two cups) a day for the remaind- er of the year? This allowance H will give approximately three H ounces a day per person. For each . member of the family over five and six teaspoonsful additional, H for less than five reduced the H amount six tablespoonsful for H each person. |
